The wife and I will be going to Fredricksburg this weekend for our 1st anniversary. Leaving Dallas on 35 going to Hillsboro then west to Goldwaithe. Then south to llano where we are going to hike Enchanted Rock. Need somewhere good to eat along the way after we get off 35. And maybe a few more places to see

On the return on Sunday, we will be headed for Perdenales Falls then onto Salt Lick BBQ.

Inman's Kitchen on hwy 29 west in Llano, home of the world famous turkey sausage, brisket pretty good also. I always stop in and buy a link or two of their smoked turkey sausage and a loaf or two of their homemade bread, which you could take with you and eat at Enchanted Rock.

A lot of people like Cooper's BBQ in Llano but IMO it has turned into a weekend hotspot for Austin trendy/yuppy biker wannabes and is overpriced ... decent meats, especially their thick chop (thick smoked pork chop) and ribeye/sirloin (when available).

My wife and I really like Peabody's in Goldthwaite. We eat there everytime she goes to the lease with me.

My folks live outside of Llano. I would recommend Laird's for BBQ (on Hwy 16 before you get south of town) and they have a new Mexican place in the railyard that just opened up. Tried it this past weekend and it was great!! For other stuff, burgers, pizza, etc try Stonewalls at the corner of 16 and 152. Good pizza!!

Cooper's pork chop was still dynamite last time I passed through Llano about six months ago...if you happen to be in Marble Falls....the food at the Bluebonnet cafe is very good, the pies are homemade and baked fresh daily...they are to die for, or kill for as the case maybe.

If you go through Burnet, just West of Llano on Wed thru Sat, go to Post Mountain BBQ behind 7-11...... great meats smoked on oak.

I still really like coopers in Llano a lot btw... I travel all over Texas for work and Coopers is still in the top 15 state wide in my opinion.

The Exxon station at the corner of Fisher Street and Hanna Valley Rd. has one of the best hamburgers you can stuff down your throat. Peabody's is in the old wool and mohair barn a block North of whatever is called downtown Goldthwaite (the red light). Peabody's has good meals at a decent cost and their pies are really good. Neither will disappoint you.

El Tapatio - Mexican in Goldthwaite. San Saba has the pit stop BBQ on Saturday. It's good. Lots of choices in Llano.

I keep expecting Coopers in Llano to fade but it never does. Been going there since the 1990's. The thing I've learned is don't go later in the day - seems all the good stuff is gone. We always try to time it between 1100 and 1400. haha, I have people in Chicago and Massachusetts hooked on it now and they order online.

Our trips always include a trip to Salt Lick, even if it means a detour. We stumbled upon another place that's a bit of a detour, but I HIGHLY reccomend a swing thru Spicewood for a stop at Opie's on hwy. 71, Great brisket, slised thick, but still tender and very smokey. Coleslaw is better than most places and they also have homemade butterbeans, cobbler and a huge assortment of sheet style cakes. It will be on our return list to try ribs and pulled pork that we just didn't have room for.
