For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

If you drive metal into the ground they may have a problem with damage to the pipe or coating and even possible interference with cathodic protection. the pipe depth of cover will be a major factor.
If they would approve of the pen and later decide to do some type of repair, it would obviously have to be removed.
You need to get in touch with the PL company to get an answer and they are usually pretty protective of their stuff.

somewhere on the right of way, there will be a little metal sign saying who is the owner of the pipeline. call them for details. you probably don't want anything on the pipeline that can be torn up. the company that owns the one that goes through my place tore up my stand a few years ago and had to replace it, but it was an irreplaceable older design, and i've never liked the one they brought me to replace the one they tore up.
just a heads up

We were told nothing permanent was to be put inplace on the pipeline. Most of the guys have set stands up on one side of the pipeline and feeders on the other.
I think the main reason they dont want stuff in the way is so they can mow easier.

That being said, call the pipe line company and have them mark where the line is and where it's ok to dig/stake items. We did this so we could plow part of it for a food plot. They didn't seem to mind

Find out how wide their easement is and get to the edge in an area where your view is not obstructed and build your pen, even if it is partially in the easement, the line will be in the center of it.

They will work around if possible. Just don't set it up right in the middle.

how often do they mow yalls pipelines? A few times a year. It seems to vary depending on how it's growing. I think they only mowed it twice last year. It was pretty nasty during the summer and over 5' tall. We have about 2.5-3 miles of pipeline.

after the stand smushing business, i try to keep mine under control on my own. they fly pipelines on a regular basis to see what area needs what. i really don't want anyone back on there again if possible, so i try to keep it to where there won't be a need for anyone to be out ripping and tearing all to hell.

in fairness to myself, my stand wasn't blocking the right of way or access, somebody just got carried away or didn't know how to use a tractor (most likely) if i hadn't been checking things regularly, i wouldn't have found it until close to season, because who ever did it didn't report it.

The hunters haven't had any problems that I'm aware of other than a game camera going missing and that could have been anyone. Some of these stands have been up a long time, and they replaced some that had been there before.
I only hunt that area for hogs and coyotes in the off season and use it as my 1k + yard range. We do usually check it whenever the pipeline people have been there though.

Several lines on my place. The majors periodically mow mine. I had one company flag theirs last summer for a fence that I was building. The agent that came out stated that they were way behind on their mowing because all the activity in West Texas was eating up their budget. He also told me something about that particular line that was scary. I knew that it was a high pressure gas line but I didn't know it was thin wall stainless steel. When I realized that it worried him, then it definitely worried me. Sure not going to disturb any thing along that line. Especially not in the rocky area.

First thing is that I would put a feeder on the edge, not the middle, so no issues on driving post. Second thing is that the pipeline company has an easement, not ownership. Third is that if you maintain it yourself (it is your land) then there is no reason for them to be there at all. I have a power line running thru part of my property and I let a chicken farmer fertilize and cut hay on the right of way. Everyone wins. BTW it is easier to ask forgiveness than permission.

Portable Paneles is the way to go..Take some Panel Wire and frame it in tubing w/pins and hinges so you can attach them..Maybe put a "T" post where you want a walk gate..and use the panels as a gate for the truck when hauliing corn..Whatever you do, don't put it in the center of the right of way or block their access.. then they will tear it down..Don

BTW it is easier to ask forgiveness than permission. Federal law requires that you call for a line locate before digging, or driving posts. Utilities would much rather send someone to locate the line to avoid having to deal with deaths from ruptured gas mains. Law requires you to call even when you are instaling a fence, or burying a tree in your own backyard! Me personally, I would rather know if there is a danger before I drive that t-post into a gas line or electrical line! http://texas811.org/contact-us or dial 1-800-dig-tess

We had them put their markers on the line. In some spots it's in the middle, in other spots its about 1/3 of the way from the edge.

While it is an easement,if you damnage it in any way without making a one-call you are liable for the damnage. It could be costly.
