I have been thinking of getting one or the other as ride around rifle at the ranch that would be used out to 125 yds or so. Is there an advantage to one or the other?

Google chuck hawks 22wmr vs 17hmr. I personally prefer the 22 for the reason chuck states, but as of late I might need to buy a 17 hmr.

I read that article and a few more. I like the 22 for th extra pop, but I was a little concerned about the accuracy part of it, or maybe lack thereof. I have never shot a WMR out of a rifle so I didn't have any clue if this was a widespread problem or not.

I too second the 22WMR over the 17HMR; just more "thump" or killing power in my experience.

That being said, the new 17WSM looks fairly interesting. I've not read any first hand accounts but those little .17 pills are trucking out of that round.

I have had a savage w/accutrigger neer should of sold it solid 1/2" gun at 100yds and a marlin that was sub moa. I wouldn't mind a cz with that set trigger! 22wmr, 17hmr, or 30-06 are only be accurate as long as its built right and quality parts used.

Ya the 17wsm is tops on the list for next buy. Kinda wish they made a carbine for the 22 tcm as well. something like a ruger scout config.

I vote for the .17HMR over the .22 magnum.

This .17HMR, a Savage 93R17BTVS with a Nikon ProStaff 3-9x40 BDC scope has proven to be an excellent walking varmint gun, and it's a lot of fun on the bench as well. - Superbly accurate.

( Click Image to See it Larger )

The BDC feature of the scope lets me sight it in at 100 yards, and the first oval below the crosshairs serves at both 20 ft. and at 150 yards. - ( At close range it works because of the height of the scope above the bore. )

The cartridge is phenomenal. One day a grackle alighted twenty-five feet away in a tree, facing me. I popped him - and he came down in two pieces! Apparently the bullet passed through his spine, severing it.

Due to the heavy barrel in conjunction with a light-recoiling cartridge, one can observe hits through the scope; Something that none of my other rifles will do.

You don't see a lot of these for sale used, as anyone who has shot one of them wants to hang onto it. I bought mine for my morning walks around the farm, and it worked out to be a great companion. It's the best thing that I have ever found for offhand shooting.

I am sure that there are other guns out there just as nice - but I don't know what they are. You can't go wrong with a Savage 93R17BTVS...

I'm just sayin'.
