I need a little help guys. A yellow lab litter hit the ground 2 weeks ago from my breeder and I have originally chosen a male. This would be my first dog of my own to use for hunting. Ive had 2 labs but only as house dogs and the female i have now i truly enjoy. I've been hearing from a lot of friends to switch and get a female and I will be happier. I've hunted with both males and females and have seen the good and bad of both. What are your thoughts and experiences with each? The dog will be a duck dog

I say there's no difference in hunting ability.
So, it is all in what you want to put up with. I am really partial to my girls, always have been, but two of the best overall dogs I have owned and hunted over have been males.
Then again, two more have been female.
You gotta decide this one for your self.

It's a personal preference only... One is no better then the other.

I have both. If I had a choice, I would buy a female because either way I would fix it and there wouldn't be anything extra hanging around if you know what I mean. Also when we go to Kansas and all the other guys have male dogs, mine decides he needs to mark everything. It doesn't mess with his hunting, but everything around the truck gets pissed on. I hate dogs that mark stuff. He will continue to do it for a couple of weeks when he get home, then it is back to normal and no marking. He is my first male, so I don't know if it is a male thing or not.

There is no difference. The difference comes in training and trainer knowledge. The way you teach your dog to behave and work is way more important than whether they have nuts or not. There are hard headed boys and hard headed girls.
