Discuss. Not habitats but which one is harder to hunt? I have a very strong biased towards rios being relatively "slow" in the turkey world but what do you think?

Rios are much easier to hunt. I've done both.

Both are slow when compared to deer IMO after all we are dealing with critters equipped with "Bird Brains". After hunting Easterns for years and now Rios for years the Rios tend to be more vocal and easier, not necessarily from the intelligence of the bird but some products of different habitat. The Roost a Rio is most often going to be much more limited in choices of where to roost than an Eastern.

I've killed more that walked in silent vs gobbling every step. They'll teach you patience in a hurry. I can't think of one Rio off the top of my head that I've killed that came in silent.

I grew up in Central Florida chasing Osceolas. After learning to sit all morning on those quiet bastards (it was rare to have them gobble very much once they hit the ground), Rios are a walk in the park. But a hard-hunted mature Eastern tom is no picnic, either. I've had limited experience with Merriams, but they seem to be the easiest of all- very vocal and easy to call.

Easterns are for sure harder to hunt they don`t travel in as big of groups and are not as vocal as Rios and tend to come in quiet. that being said that makes it really hard for Rios to be hunted when they are henned up because of all the hens that they usually have with them and makes it a little easier to hunt Easterns than Rios at that time but for the most part Easterns are harder to hunt but I have always loved the challenge. I have hunted them in Mississippi,Missouri, and pennsylvania and only being able to hunt till noon makes it even harder.

I`ve had Rios come in quiet but they were all big mature 3 or 4 year old birds and by themselves but for the most part they do come in gobbling their heads off and I think it`s because they are always in such big groups and have to compete with each other all the time and very seldom do I have just one tom come in. this is just my opinion nothing fact at all about it

Quitcha lying BWho! Hail I’ve killed tons of Easterns and practically every one came in gobbling their fool head off. Eastern Brown County… Eastern Comanche County… Eastern San Saba County… Eastern McCullogh County, Eastern Eastland County… Come Saturday I hope I’m texting you some picks of SM Jr. with a youth season “Eastern Brown County” bird. Time to start…..
