We had a great experience with one of our regular hunters recently. During a hunt a number of weeks ago, our friend spotted an Axis that he really took a liking to. We decided he would go after it and we tracked it for a short while before it headed into some brush and we completely lost sight of it. We didn’t see the Axis again, and with the light fading he decided to book a return for the following week to take it. On his return, after nearly eight hours on foot we failed to see the Axis at all. I had spotted it just the day before and felt we had the area narrowed down but there was simply no sight of him. Nada. A week later our hunter returned and we were at it again. There were a couple of fleeting glimpses of the animal, but no more than a tease, and AGAIN eight hours ended as a failed quest. This was turning into an epic - some would have thrown the towel in and taken another buck as there are plenty to choose from, but he had decided he wanted this Axis for sure. On his third return, this last week, we set off at 8am. First siting was around 10am and he stalked the Axis for five and a half hours. He eventually downed his animal with a fantastic running shot! Although no record breaker - a well earned Axis and a lot of fun had. I have to pay tribute to the hunter for not only his remarkable marksmanship, but his fortitude and commitment to the sport - particularly since his drive to our place is 250miles each way. We commented "Some high fence hunting ranches may be considered "canned hunts", just not this one!"

"It is the same boiling water that softens the rice, which hardens the egg." It's not always about the circumstances, but what you are made of....
