I was told only to hunt hogs in months that have a "R" in them. Well I was wanting to go hog hunting again in May after my City Council Election. Is May ok for good eating? Thanks for any input

My advice is to ignore all the advice like hunting during certain months or times of day or using special recipes of mash to draw them in or odor removing sprays etc etc etc

and just get out there and hunt.

Give yourself more than one sitting when you do make it out so that you give yourself an honest chance at seeing a hog.

Thanks.

What about the heat? I heard it can make the meat nasty.

The thing about the heat is you need to get the meat cooled down as fast a possible. The meat will spoil if not handled and cooled quickly. I don't normally hunt hogs unless it's cold just because I don't lioke to rush processing the meat. I do it myself and like to take my time.

Sometimes it's hard being me! But somebody has to do it.

Your still good right now its not that hot.... but if you wash them off with soap and get them gutted and cleaned fast it wont be a problem either way.... iv cleaned hogs in the 30s and also close to 100degrees.... as long as you clean them quick and right its just fine...

May is fine, just like the rest of the months.

We hunt hogs all year round and I'm guessing Florida heat and Texas heat are all about the same. Keep a cooler with ice and some plastic grocery bags nearby. Skin them, butcher them, bag it, and ice it.

We will do a hog within 45 minutes above 90 degrees, no longer than 1 1/2 hours above 80-90 degrees, but never more than 2 hours at any temp, from the kill shot.

if you are in doubt about the meat spoiling then they do make great coyote bait

the best months are the summer months when the hunting pressure is off. Most hunters turn into golfers and I have had excellent luck May, June, July August and Sept. Sitting in a metal box blind when it is 90 degrees at midnight isnt pleasant but the reward is worth the suffer.
