So I purchased my first dog of adult life. I bought a AKC registered lab. I put him in training after a week of owning him because he needed more work than I could offer. That being said I picked him up from the trainer on Weds. I have given him 3 baths trying 2 pet soaps and 1 human soap and his smell is just rancid. Is there anything I can do to get rid of the "dog" smell? I read buy fish oil vitamins has anybody tried this? I appreciate the feedback.

spray him with perfume and no more tacos and burritos. Or shave him like poodle. He lives outside?

How old is he? Our pup smelled horrible when she was teething.
Also, he could be secreting something he ate. We use Trifexis for flea/heart worm and she smells awful for 2-3 days after we give it to her. Vet said it wasn't uncommon.

Sounds stupid but my 11 mo old choco lab still pisses like a chick so he gets it all over his front legs sometimes. if urs does this it seems like its a couple baths every week till he mans up.

Try changing dog foods. Years ago, I fed Ole Roy...the dogs loved it, but the doggy smell was awful! Not to mention when they would cut the cheese!

I have had several male labs and they always had a strong odor. My daughter is a professional dog groomer and does a lot of them. There are some dog shampoos that will help but they have to be bathed monthly. It is not a good idea to shave a lab.

WHAT???!!! He doesn't smell like chocolate? If nothing else works, you might go with what 3 alarm said - have the anal glands checked.

X10, Expressing the anal glands can't hurt. Not my thing and I can't stand the smell of it so I spring for a visit to the groomer a couple times a year. If he is licking, um you know, all the time, they might be leaking and could be a cause of your problem. Something for a vet to check.

You should stop washing him so much too. You strip off the oil...it comes back. It don't smell good. Let him be....for 6 months or so.

My 2 year old yellow lab almost never smells like a dog. This is my first lab and he is a house and hunting dog and he really suprises me that he does not have that DOG smell. Glad you got him checked, you and him will both ne much happier.
