I have a Cannon 24 gun safe that I bought new in December 2009 from Costco. I continually have problems opening it and am too stubborn to send it back to Cannon to fix which would mean unloading it and shipping it back to them. Usually if I keep trying I can eventually get it open, although there have been a few times I thought I was going to have to cancel a hunting trip because of it. Needless to say, if I had to get in the safe quickly and my life depended on it, things might not end very well.
I have checked the battery and it is ~9.5 volts, so no problem there. I was just wondering if anyone has had problems opening these safes. It is an SG electronic lock with a 6 digit code. Thanks.

Oh man what a problem. Maybe Costco would help you out?
I wanted one of those Cannot big ones when they were $799.

I was looking at the cannon safes this weekend and it showed a list of the benifits to having a cannon safe. As I recall it listed unlocking services and most repairs that it might need being free and done in your home unless it required some thing that needed to be done at the factory at which they would pay shipping. Call and see if it applies to you and let us know. That might have some affect on what I purchase. Good Luck Road Dawg

I have Stackon Elite that has a keypad. After about 2 yrs one of the numbers on the pad would stick. I was having trouble getting it to open, then it would not open at all. I called them and they sent me a new keypad cover under warranty. I know have trouble with a digit sticking again. I am just going to change my entry code to bypass that digit for a while then have to buy a new keypad this time as warranty has been out for a long time. Have you tried changing the battery out with a new one. I have had issues with batteries showing enough voltage but when put under load they are no good. I change my out once a year.

Have you tried turning the wheel while entering your code ?
On my Liberty , I have to hold a little pressure to the left or the door will not unlock.
I think it has something to do with being off level.
hope this helps

This is the reason I chose to go with a mechanical lock.
Not sure what to do, other than call Canon and see if you can just send in the keypad or something like that.

Get someone to install a Legard digital lock. S&G makes the best mechanical dial but their digital locks are inconsistent. In the long run you'll be better off. Also MAQKE sure you use either a coper top dura cell or an energizer. Cheap batteries do not last long and a weak battery will do this. Where in west texas are you? I might know a safe guy close to you.

Just call Cannon and tell them what's going on and they'll pay to have a tech fix it. The warranty is a big part of the cost of a safe, so use it.

I did not try to call Costco. Maybe I should. I did look on their website and they do not appear to sell them anymore.

Yeah, I might need to just install new batteries. I measured the battery and it was 9.5 volts, but it would not hurt to try a new one. I actually hunt in west Texas in Howard County between Big Spring and Stanton, but I live in the DFW area. I called Cannon and they said the parts have a lifetime warranty, but the labor would cost me. They said they would send me another keypad and I would have to pay a locksmith to install it. Assuming I can get it open again, I wonder if I could try to change it out myself. They said they would send me a mechanical lock that could be installed on my safe also. I told them if I had trouble with another keypad I would have them send me a mechanical next time.

La-Gard does have the better of the electronic locks. I can help you with this. Thanks SafeBuilder

I haven't had any trouble with the standard dial liberty. Those e locks made me nervous.

This is the reason I chose to go with a mechanical lock. That's why mine uses a key. Ok, one other reason to use a mechanical. One EMP burst and you are locked out of your guns. (And you don't need a nuke anymore to make an EMP) EMP weaponry

I had the same problem, called cannon and they said only use Duracell batteries and you may have to change them frequently. Make sure your handle is always turned to the right as far as it will go
