Just caught this buried in a wildlife department email I had received.

"Additionally, the Commission approved a resolution to change the daily limit of pheasants from three roosters to two."

OUCH! That's too bad they have had to bring it to that.

Looks as if the end is near on all upland birds.

I am a little disappointed to see it considering I have plans to pheasant hunt in the OK panhandle in December next season.

The pheasants will be back if we get the moisture needed with reasonable temperatures. When conditions are right, they can explode. I don't know that I have much hope for the quail.

Bill- I am about at the end of my tolerance of your never ending negativity about the state of the birds. People like you that scream about the sky falling and do nothing about it are part of the problem, not part of the solution.

Wasn't to long a ago it was a two bird limit. .. two years of good rain and a good hatch and it will go back to three.

I wish the state would of kept it at three and left it up to the landowners though to decide if they would allow two or three.,

two birds can make for an expensive pheasant.

. actually really liked the three bird limit, I personally thought it helped keep the pressure down on the blues.

Thanks Raymond, I was thinking the same thing.

And Bill, I don't mean any disrespect.

Pheasant seem to be a much more resilient bird than quail. All Kansas, OK, and Texas really needs is some timely rains. I hunted not too far from the KS-OK border in 2010-2011 and saw over 200 birds a day easy. It's literally been cut in half every year since then but with some rain it could make a big bounce back. As should quail. Pheasants main problem right now is lack of moisture. Which is probably quails big problem too but it think there's more to them.

I don't think Bill means to be negative. He's like a lot of guys...he just remembers how it used to be.

Ever see that movie "No Country For Old Men"?

It was just a knee jerk response that any of us who have been hunting several years might say. I was looking at last years game surveys for Kansas yesterday. Here is the pdf file for the 2011 small game hunter activity survey.
http://www.kdwpt.state.ks.us/news/content/download/32138/230526/file/SGHSrpt2011.pdf
There are some graphs on there from 1957 to 2011. There is one thing in common for all small game hunting in Kansas. Other than a peak in the early 1980s (my good old days) for most game there has been a steady decline in harvest per hunter for all small game be it feather or fur.

Don't get me wrong on the selfish disappointment to two birds, I do understand the need. For those of us who do have access to the pockets that still have birds it is a long drive to hunt two birds a day. In the 2011-12 OK season I had two birds down in less than 15 minutes, but the drive is 6-7 hours.

Bill may be guilty of being a bit too realistic for some folks. Sure glad he has thick skin.

I think it's good the state is taking action...at least it shows they are paying attention. I wish Texas would do the same for quail...not that I think that reducing bag limits would make a huge difference by itself, but it would send a message that might get people's attention and result in broader conservation efforts.

X2 John. I honestly dont think the two bird bag limit does squat. Now back when Oklahoma was a posted or unposted state yes maybe. But now not so much since they redefined the tresspassing signs.

Two bird limit makes that some expensive ditch chicken. For anyone have to travel 1 hour or more
