just about every outfitter offers one.

Personally, If you want the hill country I would look at Kent Creek Ranch, if you wanna get spoiled and hunt the brush country go to www.fourseasonsranch.net

I've seen some big axis at both ranches

A few tips... axis come in lots of different shapes and sizes. There is BIG difference sometimes from animal to animal, from racks that go straight up, to racks that are very wide.

Most places have lots of choices - you could look at several 32" axis that look completely different in their antlers.

I am of the belief that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Axis are very addictive. You'll get one over 30" that has a high rack, then you'll want one with a wide rack, then you'll want one with long brows, then you'll just have to have one with long cottles. Trying to find one that has everything means that you will likely have to pass on a LOT of animals.

Another thing, folks talk about these massive axis 35" or better. They are out there, but really any axis over 30" is a pretty nice trophy, especially for your first. Trying for one 35" or better means you are going to be patient and lucky - and hunt that has a large number of those bigger bucks. Again, you may have to pass up a number of animals waiting for "the one".

They can also be very frustrating. Since on places where there are good numbers, they often run in herds. More than a few times the animal I wanted was covered up by other animals that continually blocked the shot. Several times I have been after a doe or a specific buck and had "the one" show up in a group of 15-25 and I'd watch them for an hour and never got a shot - only to have them run off together.

But that's what makes it fun and challenging.

I'm not after the monster once in a lifetime buck, i mean yeah it would be nice, but mostly im looking for a fair hunt where I can either take it with a bow or rifle. I've been screwed over by a few outfitters for other game and i just dont wanna make the same mistake again. i want a nice animal and an experiece where i feel like its a true hunt and not just walk up to the animal and shoot kinda deal. price wise im looking between 2500-3500 and maybe alittle higher.

For that budget, you can probably hunt anywhere for a really, really nice axis.

I know that Porter's has some real up-and-comers within that budget. But you should have no problems finding a hunt with all your requirements within your budget. Lots of choices.

If you want a real challenging hunt, try one of the outfitters here offer free range axis hunts. There are several here on this board.

I don't think you can go wrong with most any of the outfitters here on THF - just decide on accommodations, type of hunt, and these guys will get you fixed up.

And be sure to let know with pics! smile

Our axis hunts run $2500 plus $150 day guide/ranch fees. $800 to book the hunt and remainder after you draw blood. Our average buck taken last year was 33" and the biggest just over 36". We regularly take 30" plus bucks on every hunt and have a ton of great bucks this year. Would be glad to have you!

Travis

There are lots of places that will fit in your budget and requirements. I'd recommend talking to each of the outfitters and go with the one you feel like you "click" with.

I've hunted with Heath and he is a really good guy and his clients kill some really nice axis. Porters has a great reputation as well and I hope to book a hunt with him someday. Curtis at Double Arrow has some great axis that I've personally seen on a recent doe hunt for my son and Dad and he'll work his tail off to make your hunt memorable. I locked down a hunt with him today for a July axis hunt.

Good luck with your choice and hunt. Axis are one of the most beautiful animals to hunt and most delicious to eat.
