The president was Nixon and he didn't get anywhere with congress. He at least wanted to ban Saturday Night Specials.

Ahhh. I remember the good ol days when a Saturday night special was something else entirely.

Saturday Night specials were banned! It all depended on their physical size. That is why the "Baby Browning" and several other quality pistols have not been available in the US for many years. Several other guns came into being simply by the makers changing the size by a very small amount. Can't remember the names of the pieces of junk but a lot of them came into being.

Jennings, Bryco, Davis, Lorcin, Raven,.... were all reverse engineered real guns with added junk to pass the standards
