So I swapped out the spin cast corn feeder for a DIY PVC gravity fed protein tube.

I mixed 50/50lb corn and 16% L&E Protein then straight 100lb protein on top of that.

Since then my game cam pic have slowed down considerably.

Small acreage with no tanks... I know spring has sprung and they have more food options, but I miss all the game came pics!!

Is this typical??

Might just take em a while to figure out the gravity tubes vs waiting on the feeder to go off. Throw a little mix on the ground and see if that helps.

Activity has slowed down here too. Not much to look at on the cams.

I don't know how long you fed the 50%/50% mix before going 100% but the way I did it on a lease that I had was start at 25% protien-75% corn for a month. Then 50%/50% for another month then 100%. I noticed a big jump in the amount of feed I had to use to fill up the feeder after that. The next years antler quality was much better.
Of course I made sure hogs could not get to the feed.

I have had 2 feed stores tell me, " no don't mix with corn they deer will eat it just fine". I say bull. It took a solid 90 days for deer to start hitting the protein unmixed with corn last August out of 1 PF. I added a 2nd and mixed with corn. I am just in my 2nd month and they still have not hit this aggressively yet. It takes them a awhile. With the rains and some sun, there is fillary and clover in the pastures and they will always eat that first.

It takes a while for them to get used to it. I just hand dump on the ground whenever I check. Although I keep it full 9 months out of the year it really only gets hit in the summer. I went from over 1000 pics in Jan and Feb to 28 the past three weeks.

In january I put out 250 pounds of protien mixed with 50 pounds of stampede. They have now eatin all the way down to 1/4 of it and slowed. The oats that didn't sprout last fall have now popped up and the deer are teraing it up. They are still hitting the protien but the oats are first.

Sometimes it's hard being me! But somebody has to do it.

Guess the deer on my place are different, they hit the protien feeder as soon as I put it out, it doesn't take them long to clean it out. texas
