Hi Guys,

Backstory:

I'm heading out to the lease this weekend with my FIL and brother. My brother is over from the UK for the second time, we've taken 2 hunting trips and hunted about 3 nights and 2 mornings without getting him on a hog. We finally had one under the feeder lights last weekend but he didn't get his rifle up quick enough and it wandered off. He was very disappointed.

So this weekend i'm going all out. We're going to stay out until the sun comes up if we have to. I know they always visit in the night at some point, you just never know how late.

Question:

I've also bought some of that berry and molasses hog wild attractant to sweeten the deal. Any ideas on increasing the smell factor to really get those pigs out?

As we're only hunting 1 night I want it to be easily picked up, I just planned on scattering under the feeder. As we will be doing this directly before hitting the stand i don't want to disrupt the feeder area too much but any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks

I personally have had better luck with soured corn over the flavored stuff. For me it seems the first time you introduce the flavored stuff it takes them a little time to get used to it before there on it good. I would sour a 5 gal bucket of corn and dump it out. It's irresistable to them.

Its probably too late but soured corn is working good for me right now. You might also try horse and mule feed. The molasses and oat smell seems to draw both deer and pigs from a ways off.

Do not put it in a feeder with corn unless you like bees

Thanks for all the suggestions.

I thought i might get a lot of the soured corn ideas. As you guys have said, its a bit too late for that.

thebowfisher - This was my concern, i don't want to introduce something new and scare them away. Sometimes we throw out a bit of sweet feed and they seem to like that. I'd read good things about this hog wild stuff and thought i'd give it a go.

Brownwood - Really appreciate the offer, I am in the Irving area of DFW but as i'm 10 days our from my wedding i havn't got time to drive over and pick some up! Shouldn't even be going out to the lease this weekend but i'm desperate to get my brother on a hog before he flies home.

To be honest, i'm pretty sure they will turn up at somepoint during the night, they always do. I just wanted to make it has high probability as possible with something real sweet smelling!

Thanks again

Get a five gallon bucket and mix the Hog wild with corn. Put about a gollon of the mix in a mesh bag dip it in some warm water and hang it about eye level. Sprinkle the rest around on the ground. The smell will travel farther.

Sometimes it's hard being me! But somebody has to do it.

For a quick "corn sour" pick up a bottle of George Dickel's sour mash at the liquor store and pour a few cups over a post-hole full of corn, or mix it in a bucket. Instant sour corn aroma. Hogs love it.

It's been my experience that bigger pigs are a little leery of new stuff under the feeder. I wouldn't put out anything that isn't usually there. If anything put it out after the hunt so by the next trip they have gotten used to it.

First thing I would concern myself with is hygiene. I am always showered and I spray my whole body with unscented Right Guard. I brush my teeth with baking soda. Only use hunter soaps. I was my clothes in unscented detergent and hang in a tree for a day or more. Anything you carry into the field like a bag or a gun case is going to smell like the house it came from. I pick my blind based on wind direction. Putting more than one hunter in a a blind is doubling scent but it works and works often. Consider hogs can easily detect a tiny food source deep underground so smelling a hunter is like walking by a McDonalds for us. Knowing that dump a lot of corn early in the day under the feeder light and tempt them all day, they will know it is there and there stomach will get the best of them. Keep all unnecessary windows in the blind shut. Keep your rifle on your lap.

I used to use it now I buy powdered fruit punch from walmart 1.69 and tub. Works just as good. You can also mix it into a bucket with corn and water and let it sit a few days.
