I am giving up the fight on my 250 acres as the neighbors which assured me they would help manage the deer heard are shooting any thing that walks. I am thinking of day leasing it to help pay for my corn. What are the prices for a day of hunting in South Texas with no guarantees of a kill?

Assuming no trophy fee, I would think $500-$750 a day would be about right...

Define South Texas? What animals to hunt? Hog, turkey, exotics or WT? I am not a fan of any form of day leasing but you going to have do what you need to do.

just high fence it, problem solved.

either that or sell the place

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Why would you still be buying corn for yourself. You will have nothing to eat it after one season with all the day lease hunters and the neighbors shooting everything in 250 acres. Unless you have some giant neighbors

$200 per day is about the most I would pay.

Used to be about a $150 a day around these parts. It was good the first couple of days. After that you were SOL on seeing much. Day hunting is a good way of pissing off neighbors and getting all the deer killed off a place.

Not knowing where the land is, I will give you $100/acre

Hey DQ Kid, let me know when you want to hunt. I will give you a deal at $400 a day. $100 to $150 is about the going rate. Might want to limit amount of hunters on 250 acres

Day hunting has totally ruined many ranches. I had a good lease for three years that the owner decided to day hunt. After a couple of years, he asked me if I wanted the lease back and after checking it out, I said no. The property was pretty well shot out and it would probably take years to get back to normal and I did not want to wait years before I could kill deer again. He still wanted the full lease price but the property was practically worthless for hunting, You can't have day hunting and still have good hunting too.

If I was in your situation and had limited resources, I would start high fencing the property as much as I could afford each year. Leave the last section open and corn the hell out of the other end of the place to draw as much wildlife on your property. Make sure they have a good water source. Do this for two weeks. Then finish the fencing.
Start a good management plan. Once you get to this point you have a great place to hunt and you have increased the value of your property.

Just to back up most of the previous entries, day hunting is the most sure fire way to ruin a place.
People who day hunt do NOT want to go home empty handed, and they for sure don't give a damn about what happens to the place once they're gone, or while they're there for that matter.
Especially if you're dealing with a small tract of land.

You would be better off running fully guided package hunts.
