Taking a family vacation to the Big Bend region and looking for advice on RV spots. No set plans. Just going to show my boys some new country and get away. 33' TT and wife likes electricity. I could do a night or two without electricity but its just not that much fun when someone isn't able to have a hair dryer and all that. Want to drive in the park and go to the observatory if we can work it in.

I had seen the nps site. Just not willing to drive that far and hope for a site. Had not found the Stillwell Store. Looks just right. I'm gonna call for res tomorrow. Thanks

If we get by the caverns during business hours we will be sure to stop in.

If you stay at the stillwell store and you want to do some off the beaten path exploring check out Black Gap WMA if you dare. No phone service and few to no people. It will require an aph hunting or public use permit for the adults though.

lost alaskan rv park in Alpine...nice place.

Davis mountains state park in Ft davis. One of the best kept Indian forts I know of is Ft Davis.Close to the observatoty.

If you stay in Alpine you can go to presidio and take the river road back thru big bend state park.Best drive we have taken in a while. You can do it in a day...with no dawdling.

Just got back from there a week or so ago.

As Ramsey said,rv parks in Lajitas.

Ya'll think Stilwell or Lajitas for base camp? We might spend a couple days at each to get some experience for the next trip. Thanks for all the ideas.

If mama likes nicer parks I would stay in Alpine at Lost Alaskan.......Lajitas will be a little more stark and dusty.

Be sure to eat at the Old Drugs Store in Ft.Davis, fantastic greasy hambugers and original soda fountain food
Check out the old fort also, pretty interesting rifle
Lajita's has a nice park and golf course, and a beer drinking goat at the old store cheers
Terlingua has a really big rv park behind the store happy3
