Just got my R8 back from the gun shop, and I have to say that I am a happy camper- I was able to get some threads cut on 2 barrels, a nice muzzle brake, proof shots zero'd for 200m, 2 free boxes of GECO ammo and a new soft case for only the equivalent of $250.00

The reason I wanted a nice muzzle brake was to aid my shoulder that has recently had surgery. My hunting partner went and picked it up for me this evening and confirmed the zero, and he says the brake has reduced the recoil from the 8x57 to what feels like a .222 Remington. I also went and had the .30-06 barrel threaded.

The Brake that was installed goes for €120, the threads cost €150 each barrel and the ammo goes for €30 per box. Throw in a nice soft case that they gave me, and I would value it at least €60 here, and they should have charged me at least €540.

But because they didn't listen to basic instructions, they had to eat the cost on the brake, the ammo and the soft case. I only had to pay for the threads. I had to give a big thank you to my partner who talked them down by pointing out their errors.

So here below is a good photo of it, and yes, the prices for work are outrageous here, but it is only another few months and them I am packing all of my things up and sending it back to Texas.

thanks all- I really am glad to have given you a good look at this rifle. It has a straight pull action with a removable trigger/magazine group. The barrels are interchangeable between calibers of the same bolt head group (standard/magnum/small). The stock comes with a traditional Bavarian comb with a double rabet on it. The iron sights come standard and the barrels have the option of mounting via rings or a rail for Zeiss/ Swaro scopes. This one has the Zeiss Victory Varipoint in 3-12x56 illuminated reticle.

I should be going hunting with this rifle this weekend, and will post anything I take with it.

Txtrophy- you'll love yours when you first get it. The safety/decocking mechanism is a little different, but once you've used it you'll love it.

HeidelbergJaeger von Texas,
Is that the saddle mount that Blaser offers? And if so, have you found after removing and putting it back does it remain a true zero?

This is indeed a Blaser Saddle Mount, and it really does hold a zero when you remove it from the barrel. The Scope has a rail underneath that gets locked into place by tension screws. once you have it locked down, the saddle mount has two locking lugs that attach at specific mount points that can then be removed and reattached while still maintaining a perfect zero.

In Germany we also use something called a "Schwenkmontage" or pivot mount that also retains a zero no matter how many times you remove your scope. This option makes it really easy to travel with a scoped rifle. You can look up something called an EAW Schwenkmontage on google to see how it works. I have one of those on my Zastava and it was a great investment, especially on the Mauser 98 style rifles that have different heights for the back and front scope mounts.

I have the R8 professional and it indeed holds zero everytime. This system is in my opinion the pinnacle of refinement for a rifle. Seconded only by the Steyr M action (Same action as my SSG 69) of which I have also aquired a few. The germans know how to build rifles and design plain and simple.
