This was in New Zealand. We were going up the mountain for my Tahr when this yearling Tahr came right to me on his way up the mountain while the guide clicked away with his camera. I nicknamed him Timmy the Tahr. He stood there for a good 2-3 minutes trying to figure out what I was, working his nose, cocking his head to the side like a dog.

He finally went around me on the downhill side and continued up the mountain. He never spooked and he never ran. It was once in a lifetime event!

And yes, I did get my Tahr. 14.5 inches...a beauty! More pics below.

cool

Gun's don't kill people. The Government does.

I killed eight gophers last year and a purebred Tennessee walking horse that was looking at me funny.

You could have at least given him a "boo" to see how high he jumped...
All in all, one great experience! Would have loved to have seen it for myself!

Man, THF is so educational. I admit it; I had to google TAHR.
But why didn't you shoot a Chamois?

Here's some more pics of Timmy the Tahr and one of the Tahr I was able to harvest. For those asking, I had my bow with me, along with my Ruger 7 Mag. The guide was carrying the bow on his pack while I carried the gun. I have to admit I was having a bit of trouble going up the steep snowy mountainside so the Guide was helping me lighten my load. It helped that he was half my age!

The Close-up isn't as close as it appears. The guide had a nice lens and was able to zoom in closely when Timmy glanced back at him because of the camera clicking.

I didn't hunt a Chamois. Just ran out of money...but maybe someday, by way of helicopter! That trek up the mountain on foot just about did me in! smile

Happy that was you, if it had been me I would have been in big trouble for not bringing it home for a pet.

I would say it's a once in a lifetime experience but 99.99999% of us will NEVER experience it! A lifetime memory for sure backed up with some great photos. up
