Found this hope it helps .22 rimfire cartridges as well as handguns are legal for hunting Rio Grande turkey in Texas, and in the hands of a seasoned shooter, they can be just as deadly as a shotgun. (Note: Do not use a rifle or handgun for Eastern turkey; for which only shotguns, archery equipment, and crossbows may be used.) click here https://fishgame.com/article.php?ArticleID=4063

Does anyone actually use a rifle on turkey? I'm guessing most of us are stuck in that 3.5 inch shotgun frame of mind.

I use my bow most of the time. But when I take shotgun is a 3" version Winchester that is about 20 years old.

I used to Turkey Hunt in Florida (lived there for a few years). They have a fall turkey season that coincides with deer season, and rifle is legal. I took a turkey at 110 yards with a neck shot with my .270. He was in the wrong place at the wrong time. The only reason I used a rifle was that I was deer hunting, and he just ended up on the menu. When I am Turkey hunting, 12 guage, 3 inch.

I shot a turkey flying with a rifle once. With a witness.
But now I use scatter guns for gobblers, bring a rifle for pigs though.

I've used a .222 a few times when I was a kid.
Sometimes it's hard being me! But somebody has to do it.

Used a 22-250 once. Lower neck shot around 60 yards and all meat was good. Really trying to get one with a bow this year.

I shot 2 with one shot with a rifle a couple years ago. Clean pass through both.

Went on a guided hunt last year and they asked us to bring 22's as well as shotguns. Birds were hanging up outside shotgun range. Ended up getting a couple close enough for shotguns.

like mentioned above, if shot with a rifle make sure you dont hit the breast. ha
Gun's don't kill people. The Government does.
I killed eight gophers last year and a purebred Tennessee walking horse that was looking at me funny.

I shot more turkey than I can remember with my .243 as a kid. Aimed right at the base of the neck, never lost a turkey, never hit a breast. I miss deep fried cajun seasoned wild turkey breast.

Up in Virginia most everyone on our lease used combination guns. Usually 12ga and small caliber rifle (.222, .223, .243)

22-250, 22mag or 17HMR head shots only Yep, NO 22 rimfire. And headshots only.

I don't see how a head shot with a .22lr wouldn't work. Of course the only turkey I've killed was with a .257 roberts to the head. That worked too.

Stingers are only 200fps shy of a 22 mag, I've used em but due to the ammo shortage I'll be trying a scattergun this year.
