I have only seen 2 of these ever This was a fun stalk, I didn't expect to get so close AND never did I expect this boar to get up after taking a shot from a .243 projectile in the head area. I later checked Point of Impact at 10 yards and I was three inches low from center. When I took the shot I figured 2 inches, I live and learn! These animals never cease to amaze me in their resilency. BB

He's dead somewhere for sure. I've learned over time to keep shooting until they quit moving 100%. Had em do the same thing to me.

Well, that is the second I have seen do the dirt dance and get up. The first was my own. I just popped him a second time as soon as he got up and then it was over. You estimated fairly correctly with 2" low at 10 yards, but you got backwards what 2" low meant for that shot. For that shot, 2" low would have been 2" BELOW the point of aim, not 2" below where you want the bullet to hit. Assuming typical .243 rifle trajectories, velocities, etc. and a scope axis about 2.5" over the bore axis (which my N550 is), you could have zero'd your rifle at anywhere from 40 to 250 yards and at 10 yards your point of impact would have been within 1/4" of 2" below your POA. So you actually appeared to hit some 4-5" below the base of the ear. So it looks like you just clipped the neck wattle. So maybe you will get another shot at that pig. And I think you probably want to get another shot. You can tell that it is one of those really good eating pigs, the kind you don't want to eat all at once. The previous hunter realized that and in down what is right, only took that right ham. So what did all the other barnyard animals do after all those shots?

We have a 3 legged sow on our place and nobody will shoot her cause well she has made it this far. We also have a hog with no top jaw or nose.

Yep I really wanted to bring this guy home.
@ DoubleNaughtSpy - I had previously shot the 6x45mm at 50 (far hay bail) and 25 yards (this hay bail) and registered 1" and 2" low at those distances. Apparently I couldn't break my habit of shooting them where I normally aim even though in my head I was screaming to myself (ear hole, EAR HOLE).
After failing to recover him it was eating me up pretty good so I setup a target at 10 yards, knelt down again, fired and it shot 3" low. So neck wattle it is then.
@Hwy_Man - The rancher we lease from owns the cows I certainly was keeping their safety in mind as I don't want to have to buy one.
@Ccrock - I got home and looked on the Internet for other stories of Three Legged Pigs, apparently in the country of Chile they are viewed as good luck. Guess I just screwed myself for the next 7 years...

That was probably the hardest video I have ever watched. I now have motion sickness. I know, that is what 4.5x fixed magnification does to you at very short range. The fixed magnification is not a benefit however the hunt wouldn't have been recorded from shooter's view without this specific scope. So it is a give/take situation. I agree with you though, you should know that making the video also caused the same effect. BB

Apparently I couldn't break my habit of shooting them where I normally aim even though in my head I was screaming to myself (ear hole, EAR HOLE). YES! I do this too and can't bring myself to aim too high on the head when I am level with the hog. With my last hog, I aimed just like you and like you the hog was too close to do that. My shot went through the jaw on both sides, apparently passing just under the skull. Errrrr! It did kill the hog, but the POI was below the POA and was not what I wanted. When shooting from a well elevated position, I am not bothered to aim a bit high because if the shot goes and inch or two "over" the ear hole, it will simply drill into the top of the head. I am coming to decide that I like shooting hogs at 50-100 yards more so than well inside 50 yards...at least with night vision at night. BTW, you did a very good job of tracking the hog visually with that much magnification at that short of a range. It is very easy to lose your target and not find it again with the scope before it is gone simply because there is too much magnification for being that close.

Were I the rancher and seen this I'm pretty sure you wouldn't be hunting there anymore.

Okay you got to say your piece, if you don't know already I do not engage in back and forth in my threads, this will not devolve into who is right or wrong. BB

Can't say I disagree with him. I think it would have been less disturbing if you had just moved around the pen/shed to take your shot. But no cows were injured in the making of the video so all's well ends better.
