As most of you probably hunt from blinds, what is one thing YOU would like to see incorporated into a hunting blind?

We are going to come out with a line of all metal 4x4 Groundblinds. These are all 18 gauge sheet metal, not some thin membrane wrapped around a sheet of foam like you see in other blinds. Weight is going to be somewhere in the neighborhood of 300lbs, making them easy to move and get set up.

Our goal is to bridge the Gap between home made blinds and the corporate style blinds that are priced out of reach to the average hunter with a quality blind that is affordable yet still made out of premium materials, not plastic, fiberglass or particle board.

For me I want a blind that is either 4x6 or 5x7 in size. Want vertical sliding windows with a shelf rest on all sides. Would also like an solid panel insert to cover windows as a back drop if needed. Personally I do not like a lot of large windows and not very wide. Drip edge over the top of each window to keep rain out if windows are open during a hunt. I would want shelves up high to store items. Would like to see a solid tight fitting walk thru door. Solid water proof floor with carpet. Blind needs to be at least 6'6" tall inside. Metal roof sitting on top of a plywood ceiling. It needs to be water tight and bug proof. Extorior finish that never needs painting. Oh and they need to be under $400 since I can build them for less than that. grin

I am pretty simple. Just add a small shelf, a few hooks for my coat or binoculars and all is good!

Everything he said except I'd put the shelves down low. I hate flashing my hand by the window every time I reach for something.

ok, so drip edge above windows, shelves are a given, and hooks, which are gonna be standard.

blind itself is gonna be 100% waterproof.

gonna have a big door. First model is gonna be 4x4

Absolutely on shelves being down below window edge. I like them around 10"-12" below. I like elbow resting height so you can prop your elbows on the shelf when glassing. I have a shooting rest the goes in the windows that can be moved from window to window and stored out of the way until needed.

Sounds like the guys building them have short legs too peep I would make the legs as stubs so they can be easily added or adapted to add on to them for those wanting a tower blind.

You going to frame blind and floor with lumber or square tubing/angle iron?

Blind is going to be all metal. Floor is going to have a pad along the bottom to deaden the noise

How stiff is the flooring material you are using? How much bracing under the flooring?

As a person who has spent over 28k for a bass boat to carry my life safely, when did fiberglass become a second rate non premium material. To further that question, guess many of the high dollar sports cars are built with second rate material. Also thought according to fishing lore that fiberglass was a better deadening material than metal.

might be true.....however, we are talking deer blinds, not bass boats or sports cars.

fiberglass blinds have a tendency to crack during transport. Also, alot of them have openings in them from the way they are manufactured (typically holes where they make a corner) and are a invitation to wasps.

That is going to be like walking on a beer can. Every move you make will be noisy even with padding. It will give with every step or movement in a chair. Way to thin. I never build a floor out of anything less than 3/4" plywood with at least as much bracing as you are putting in.

We can thicken up the flooring....that will not be an issue. Was also toying with the idea of putting down 3/4" plywood to increase the sound deadening

Build one floor base only with your flooring with that sheet metal then step on it to see how you like it. My guess is it will sound like those old mobile home rooves in a very high wind.

HANDLES!!!!!! I just moved a fiberglass blind i have today, it is not heavy but akward, no place to grab it. Or put kooks on top so it can be lifted with a bucket on a tractor. Plus what the other guys stated.

So fiberglass is cheap and corners have holes but you can promote a tuna can. I believe by the time you are through sealing and riveting and sound proofing your sheet metal you will be way above affordable cost plus you still have to paint it with a quality paint that will not peel in the sun wind and rain, something that can be added into the fiberglass and will last. 4 X 4 with a minimum 6' ceiling is going to look like a outhouse and that size is going to induce severe heat on a warm day.

Not trying to play Devils Advocate but you were the one who asked for comments and opinions.
