I only have 5 acres to hunt on and about the only time I see bucks is when they are following does during the rut. I put corn out and get pics of doe but won't see the bucks again on my camera until the season starts. I would like them to frequent my property throughout the year so that when the rut is over I will still have a chance to shoot a buck. Is there anything that I can try? I am also going to start using deer pellets to make my deer healthier and get a small boost in horn size, but if they aren't coming onto my property throughout the year, I can't get them to eat it. Any suggestions?

Biggest problme you have is that there are very few bucks in East Texas. I relocated fromn Upshur county to Brown county and all the difference in the world. One of the Hot Spots according to the Texas Sportsman Mag and I believer.

Protein will usually keep the bucks around.

The buck population is pretty decent on and around my property. This past season, I got some pics of some really nice deer, especially for this area.

Protein for sure is your best bet. Oak trees, creeks, and terrain help more.

I have Oak trees with a good deal of big acorn producing White Oaks on my property with 2 good water supplies not far off my property. I had the Pine trees cut off my place about 4 years ago and now my place is pretty brushy but with very good walking lanes for deer. I'm going to do my best to do some cleaning of some underbrush so I can have an area for a decent sized food plot, probably about 1/2 to 1 acre. What would be good to plant to help bring the deer in? I would like to find something that I don't have to replant every single year but I'll do what it takes.

How big are the doe groups on your feeder(s)?

Sounds like you got what you need. Clover, sweet radish, collards and such can help. Bottom line is the bucks are going to do what they do whatever it is they do.

Don't paint your box blind if you use one and leave your cloths outside in the sun for two weeks this summer to break down UV components and wash them with water and baking soda or that scent/UV inhibitor detergent.

I have 2 doe that run together and can get pics of them pretty much every day/night. I believe that there is a 3rd doe that tends to run by herself. There is a pretty big tract of land, probably 100+ acres next to me that nobody hunts on. It has a big area of very thick trees and brush that I assume is their bedding area. I don't shoot doe on my place for the simple fact that I just don't see many of them and I need them to bring the bucks to me.

You might have to invest in a fake doe and the high dollar estrus lure. If you have a spare phone. Make the estrus bleat the ringer, set it out there and call it once in a while. Ain't anymore unethical than a corn feeder.

The trick to pulling the big bucks out is not to trying to coax them into big open spaces. A tiny opening in the brush makes them less apprehensive.

I'm not overly concerned with keeping the bucks on my property outside of the rut because I can generally position myself to have a decent chance to see a buck following a doe during rut. I guess my real concern is that these deer, specifically bucks are moving in on me because of the digging of the coal around me and don't want them to eventually move out of my area. I've waited years to see bucks like the ones I'm seeing now. If a buck hangs around for 2 or 3 years, is it likely he has found himself a new home or territory?

Your talking about a full time job now and the more you are there the less they will be.

Protein will keep them there and a trick i have learne is to mix rice bran with brown sugar and strawberry flavored jello mix. Pour it on a stump. I have had 10 different bucks frequent those spots during the summer

ETH... what county are u in?..i hunt north central hopkins county...where u can only hunt does 3 days a year..but i have the same problem you have..bucks going nocturnal...

Good Lord, that is a big boy. Just look at his neck and body size. Shooter for me, all day long.
