We are wanting to get a cage built or bought by next season that would hold about 40-50 quail. How big do you think it needs to be to house 40-50 birds? The first 10-20 will get used up pretty quick, then we might want it to hold the rest for a couple or three months. TSC is having a sale & we are thinking about this one, think it would work? I have extra kennel panels that I can use to build a cage around this cage to keep it varmit proof & floor is no problem either, this one is $200, I can't buy all the stuff I would need to build it for that.

That should work.

That would work fine. I just throw mine in with my homing pigeons. The biggest problem is they won't get much flying room and then they'd be pretty bad for training after a couple of weeks. Nothing worse than flushing a quail that only flies about 10 feet.

On edit, the main predator getting my birds (quail and pigeons) are snakes! Keeping the raccoons and possums out is easy compared to keeping the snakes out.

You might want to soften the top. They tend to get their heads bloody.

Maybe some netting? What would you suggest?

I built a 5'Wx8'Lx8'H pen last summer for around $250-300, might could be done for cheaper though. It has solid sides up to around 5' I think and then 1/4" hardware cloth for the remaining 3'. It has a false ceiling made of the cheap 1" plastic hardware cloth from Lowes. For the birds to see out they have to fly up 5' vertically to work out their wings. I don't know how many birds it would hold, but well over 50 birds with plenty of room to spare.

I built a pen this fall that I would give you if you come pick it up in Dallas. It holds 25 or so birds. Anyway if your interested send me a PM and I will give you my number and I can talk to you about it.
