I am wondering if anyone can send me plans or drawings for building a platform feeder. I had a bad experience with the winch style feeder and now really wanting to get away from that style.

I have to ask as someone who builds and sells winch feeders what your problem was. I have been building and selling them for more than seven years now and really just want to know.

While winching it the cable broke and hit me in the face broke the barrel and the spreader. And since I'm in the middle of no where I'd rather have the platform style.

I amcertainly soory to hear that and I can understand your feelings. Sounds like the cable and the pulleies were diferent sizes. Hope you find something you feel more confident in.

Are you going to build your own?

I want to convert one of mine to platform.

I don't have plans, but you need some angle iron welded into a 2'x4' rectangle with a solid cross brace in the middle. Cover half of the opening with expanded metal and weld some pipe at appropriate angles in each corner. Then put a bit smaller pipe for legs into the larger ones & you've got it.

You can either cap the larger pipe or drill holes in both sizes & use 1/4" pins to hold the legs in place.

The barrel just sits over the open end.

Be sure your barrel will fit on the lip of the angle iron. My 55 gallon barrel is a little under 24" in diameter.

I don't understand how these 6ft feeders sling corn far enough. Why are all the other feeders higher? Thanks
