Kill one and hang it there? Works for buzzards.

12 Gauge blast in the head works.

Get a crow call, two or three decoys and have fun...

Nothing like a good crow shoot. Get a little crow/owl or crow/hawk fight sounding and they just come in mad. Off-season fun.

Call Jill Biden... JK.

The owl thing should work for awhile but they eventually figure it out. Sometimes after only a few days. After that, good luck. Try taking away the food source for awhile and see if they will leave. I know that's counter-productive to what you are trying to do but crows are a pain to get rid of.

BTW, welcome

Endangered, Threatened and Other Protected Nongame Species
It is unlawful for any person to hunt (see Definitions - Hunt) threatened, endangered, or protected nongame species. To sell or purchase goods made from threatened or endangered species, proper documentation must accompany the goods. For a complete list of threatened and endangered species, and regulations relating to breeding threatened and endangered species, please call (800) 792-1112 (menu 5).

•Protected Birds: Hawks, owls, eagles, and all other nongame birds and songbirds (except for the few unprotected birds listed below) are protected by various state and federal laws and may not be killed, taken from the nest, picked up, or possessed for any reason, and their feathers may not be possessed or sold. Arts and crafts may not include these protected species under any circumstances.

•Unprotected Birds:
The only birds not protected by any state or federal law are European starlings, English sparrows, feral rock doves (common pigeon, Columba livia) and Eurasian collared-doves; these species may be killed at any time, their nests or eggs destroyed, and their feathers may be possessed.

Yellow-headed, red-winged, rusty, or Brewer's blackbirds and all grackles, cowbirds (does not include cattle egret), crows, or magpies may be controlled without a federal or state depredation permit when found committing or about to commit depredations on ornamental or shade trees, agricultural crops, livestock, or wildlife, or when concentrated in numbers and in a manner that constitutes a health hazard or other nuisance.

Stripped down, this basically says:
"...crows may be controlled without a federal or state depredation permit when found committing or about to commit depredations on ornamental or shade trees, agricultural crops, livestock, or wildlife, or when concentrated in numbers and in a manner that constitutes a health hazard or other nuisance."

I have always found this to be so open to interpretation...and vague. I mean who can really say what a crow is "about to commit". Depredation can be defined as a raid. Crows are circling a pecan tree, are they about to commit depredation? Or are they headed somewhere else? It's just not a very well written piece.

I don't post this to argue. I just wish the state would do a little better job of writing some of this stuff.

Having managed a pecan orchard for several years, I can guarantee what they are going to do and what I am going to do! elmer

I think they left it very vague for a reason. elmer

Depredation : Attack on or a raid.
Get a plastic owl and an electronic call with crow fight sounds. Load up your shotgun and you can burn the barrel out killing crows. Again they left it vague for a reason. They will come and the more you shoot the more decoys you have. Lots of fun Too.

Shooting them makes for an enjoyable afternoon, had some that used to come eat my dogs food. They worked as a team, some would distract, some would eat. A few well placed shots and they never came back (survivors anyway).

Crows are basically the country bird for Mexico. The rule is there to make them some what happy. Almost every other state has a crow season. Until Mexico shuts down the "no limits" on Dove and Ducks, I will kill every one I can. They do nothing but harm and are a nuisance.

But also, get an owl and crow decoy or a couple crow decoy's... from my experience, do not shoot the first one, the scout. Let the others come in before you start the kill'n.. then move a 100 yards or more and repeat..

If you do try to call using the electronic call, owl decoy, and crow decoys do as Stevarino suggests and let the scout bring the others in. While doing this you will need to be heavily concealed and camo'd up as crows are super smart and have keen eyesight. High velocity 12 gauge 7.5's or 4 shot does a good job on the thiefs. I've seen a documentary study where crows teach their family members and other crows about danger areas. It will drive them away from your feeder for awhile but if there's a large population in your area it's just a matter of time before a new group will come in and start stealing out of your feeder again. I've eaten crow before... not half bad if you wash it down with plenty of Shiner Bock!

After shooting some switch to a wounded crow sound, that has worked many times for more shooting at the same setup.

In the early '70's I used to shoot with a Florida Hwy Patrolman in Jax. His uncle had a pecan plantation outside of Gainesville and would pay us 25 cents each or $5 a bushell basket to shoot crows. 25'06's and hot HP's were the name of the no skip/no bullet outside the fence game...but the crows would split in a heartbeat if they saw you carrying an uncased rifle, wooden rake, or even carrying a baseball bat etc, or shooting from the ground...so we climbed tree's and shot them on the ground...and killed mega numbers some days. They can be super smart birds...and really dumb too. One of the most fun experiences I ever had the few times I got to go...and the bounty bought lunch & gas..but the uncle sez a full grown crow could eat 5 lbs of green pecans a day every day and a large flock would destroy a couple hundred acre crop in a week or less, and I don't doubt it from the weight of the bushell baskets we filled up.
Cheers
Ron
