First and foremost, this forum has been an ABUNDANCE of information. I have been a "lurker" for quite a while searching and reading a lot of past threads.

I am currently "assembling" a new rifle for this coming deer season. I have purchased a Weatherby Vanguard series 2 7mm mag and 1" DNZ rings. I am currently trying to make a decision on a good quality scope under $600ish. The 2 that I have been contemplating over are the Leupold VXIII 4.5-14X40 and the Zeiss Conquest 3.5-10X44. I'm certainly not dead set on either one if someone has another viable option.

This will be a whitetail rifle used in the west Tx area around San Angelo. Thank you in advance for any and all info.

For what it's worth, I much prefer a 4.5-14 over a 3-10 scope. I like the extra magnification when and if I need it (100 yard range target shooting, for instance). That power range from any number of scope makers will do just fine. I have a couple of the Leupold 4.5-14's and they are great. I also have a couple of the Burris FFII 4.5-14 scopes and all I can do is praise them, and they are half the cost of the Leupolds. No doubt the Leupold scopes are better, and would be my preference, but the Burris scopes have been a happy addition to my scopes. And I'd be happy with a Zeiss 4.5-14 also. And I suggest that you go ahead and get the offered BDC lines or dots offered by whatever scope line you choose.

I would go with Nikon Monarch or a Buckmaster series scope. Clear glass and is affordable. If you want something even better, look at the Millett LRS-1 (I have all three mentioned above). I Love my Millet. It goes out to 1000yards with just two revolutions (12mils or something like that- w/ 15mils max) and the glass is extremely clear. Just my .02. Cheers!

You probably won't be able to tell a difference with your naked eye in all honesty as everybody's eyes are different. Either will be a good choice.
But

Check out what reticle you like and the offerings
Length vs weight of the scope, the leupold will probably be shorter and lighter im guessing. I like the 4x extra power of the Leuopold. It helps at the range in seeing your target and if you have time to study a buck's horns the extra power might help you make a decision.

Either scope you mentioned would work fine.
Both quality scopes.

I won a Stainless Weatherby Vanguard S2 in 7mm Rem Mag a month ago and have not decided on keeping it. Have you shot yours?
They look like fine rifles.

I have both scopes, and my opinion the Zeiss is better glass. So for me I'd go with the Zeiss unless you are wanting more magnification which shouldn't be an issue between the two on deer size targets.

Well, I decided to go with the Leupold for a couple of VERY small reasons. I think both scopes are a VERY nice piece of glass and I may possibly try a Zeiss on my next build.

Longhorn_cop, I havent fired the gun yet. I did quite a bit of research leading up to the purchase of this gun. This will be the first Weatherby that I have owned and I think that I will be pretty satisfied with it judging from the reviews that I have read on it.
