Was just driving home and there's a large retention near a new neighborhood that looks ducky. Based on seeing it when its dry, it normally holds 1-2 feet of water with lots of underwater vegetation. Every season I rubberneck for birds and most I've ever seen is about 5, always gadwall. Today there's close to 100. I tried sneaking up with my camera but no cover to get close enough. Seriously thinking about waking up early and going out for pics. Wigeon, gadwall, pintail, mallards, teal, and redheads. I spooked them when I left so I watched for about 5 minutes as a tornado of ducks were circling, cupped up and talking LOUD! Hopefully I'll have pics to post tomorrow

Ha I do too. It irritates the crap out of my girl. She'll be talking then I see a pond and I'm off in my own world

Yep I'm exactly the same way. And when i am home I'm online looking up hunting sites and always looking for deals. The wife hates it.

Was out at our place near Lone Oak yesterday and had a beautiful drake goldeneye on our lake. Wish I had seen him in season!

I went out walking, well ok stalking some neighborhood ponds and saw quite a few.

Nah I need a better zoom lens. I was only able to get 100 yards from them before they got nervous. There's zero cover around the pond

I was glad to read this thread. I showed to my wife to show her I'm not the only one that does this. I was going to the store the other day to get a can of skoal. I grabbed my keys of the table where her and a friend were setting/talking...when I walked away I heard them giggling about "he's probably going down to creep on the ducks again". Lol. I have a pond circuit I've been "working". I was able to secure the 2nd of 5 small duck leases I'm searching for in the off season this weekend though. Bought a 250 acre deer lease so I could get access to the 4 large tanks on the property that was holding alot of ducks when I visited. The owner gave me a decent break when I told him I wasn't interested in the deer and they were all his to shoot.

There were 300+ dux hanging out right outside party cove Saturday afternoon. Went there to try to catch some shad in the cut. Not the typical marina mallards either.

There's about half as many as yesterday but they're still there. Some may have already headed to roost. Those wigeon are just taunting me as they make up 75% of the group and I didn't shoot one all season

Oh yea. Well I just bought almost the exact setup as Ridn9high last night, hoping it will get here Monday/Tuesday so I can snap some cool pics. I sat for about an hour yesterday and just watched. Almost got my head taken off by a couple BWT while I was sitting on the high side of the pond. Hopefully pics to come soon!!
