I sold to Ronnie Lewing yesterday in Ballinger. There were 7 or 8 folks there selling. Any of you guys there? Lots of grays and coons, but everybody was talking about cats. Cat prices were good, 60 on the dinks up to 130 on the best one I had. Most were 80-90.

Here's my take from the day's business.

4 gray fox $10 apiece. I thought they should have been more based on recent auction results, but that's what he was paying everybody.

1 Kit/swift fox. He gave me $5, don't know if he even hardly knew what to do with it.

2 Coyotes @ $13, 2 coyotes @ 7, one deer rifle shot holey coyote @4.

1 cat @ 130, big spotted tom. I didn't see anyone else get this much for a cat.

1 cat @ 90, big tom, not too spotted.

1 ringtail, $5. I like ringtails. Not sure I like killing them for $5.

2 big coons @ 10 apiece. Smaller coons at 8,4, and $1.

Total was $347. Beats a poke in the eye with a sharp stick smile

Compared to what I'm reading on some other forums about cat prices, those seem very low.

I dunno seems kind of low by the time you run traps, skin em, stretch them & etc. but if you love doing it more power to you.

Not a bad deal in my book...basically getting paid to do what most of us would do free if we had the chance. Even if what you got paid isn't "top dollar", atleast you made something. Nice haul.

Is he buying whole animals? Or do they need to be skinned and tanned.

Nice! I remember selling big raccoons for $30-40. Miss those days. I'd like to see a picture of your $130 cat if you got one.

Dang, i let 2 Bobcats walk the other day. Sounds like a lot of fun, been trapping and selling hogs myself for last 3 weeks, caught 27 that brought just over $700.

I lived in Newton,Tx. growing up and trapping is how we made a living in the winter months. I can remember the prices were great for bobcat, mink, otter and fox. Then the bottom fell out and dad said we wouldn't shoot any more for what they want to pay just to damn pretty to kill for nothing. That was great times running trap lines.

Talked a buddy in Arkansas yesterday. They are getting anywhere from $200 to $1,000 for bobcat pelts, depending on the quality. He sold 3 last week for a total of $750.
