They are pretty unless they like the tree in front of your house. They are berry eaters and make a mess of my sidewalk and cars when they do their doo with red stains everywhere.

Great pics Adv

mikefinch,
I'm using a Canon EOS Rebel T4i. The lens is the cheap "kit" lens that came with it. It's the EF-S 55-250mm (f4-5.6) IS II. I don't recommend it. Slow to focus, not highly accurate either. The second pic shows a soft focus on the bird.

I'm about to trade it in and replace it with a EF 70-300mm (f4-5.6) IS USM. I'm also going to buy an EF 400mm f/5.6L IS lens.

What I'm reading and discovering is that the camera body is less important than the lenses used.

I recently tried out the two lenses that I mentioned and both are infinitely better than this cheap lens. They're brighter, clearer, more color, faster, and more accurate. There's just no comparison.

Yeah, if a bird stayed within range it did so at it's own peril. We didn't discriminate. Any bird was fair game.

Oh, except hummingbirds. Momma caught us when we shot a hummingbird off of the feeder. Whew, son. Daddy wore our butts out for that.

Great shots, kids saw a flock move in, clean off a gum tree and move out last year. Check out the Nikon FX series if you have some $$ to spend. The wife loves the one D4.

Me too, exactly. I had the .22 cal benjamin and had great fun trying to line up the birds as they sat in their tight groups.

Now I'm 'grown up' and all, and regret whacking such nice looking birds for fun, but it was fun at the time.
