I am talking about the cut down olts, DFBs, mondo's. Who here is running them in Texas and do you like em? I will be getting me one for next season after witnessing first hand their effectiveness in the timber in Arkansas. These guys were barking at ducks in the stratospere and breaking them down and bring them into the hole. I was impressed. I would call it power calling and it was very effective. I have never seen anything like it over here.

I've got one of the new echo and blew it a little. I like the mondo and diablo and little better and used the diablo in the timber the few times I did hunt it this year.
If you can get ahold of Kirks new cutdown it's freakin legit.

I use a cutdown brand Bluewing Teal call. Best Bluewing call on the market! Has metal Reds and you can really squawk on it. But I'm not sure sure that's what you're talking about…

If you can get ahold of Kirks new cutdown it's freakin legit. The diablo is not a cut down style call. I do like how they sound though. I ran a mondo the other day and liked it. My buddy has a ds diablo and you couldn't even here it when a couple of guys started barking on their olts. I have been looking at Bryce Deckers "black river monster" calls, BSOD calls, echos cut down, the RNT mondo, DFB calls, Kirk's new call. There are just so many out there now. I will probably get a olt cut down by Bryce Decker or Kirk McColough and maybe a cheaper BSOD.

I've worked a few of Kirk's calls. I like em.
I've seen the cut downs work in the woods but that's it. I think when used right they'd be effective anywhere.
Best thing about them is the ability to get loud and still just make simple cadences with pronounced quacks. Where a normal single reed setup will generally only get that volume with a hail sound.
I do think they are going to be more effective in a public woods setting though. Aren't many areas down here except the coast where you have the mass habitat that is a good stand of timber. That loud ring can really set you apart when they've got thousands of acres of habitat to choose from.

The Mondo and Diablo are cut down calls. It's a long story but they are cut calls.

It all depends on what you are looking for in the call and or cut...all the calls you have mentioned are good calls just more of a personal choice...just about like any other call, comes back to personal preferance
