I am looking at transferring down there to go to school next semester and that will end up running into duck season. Since the closest place I will have to duck hunt will be over 2 hours away, does anybody from the area mind shooting me a PM to point me in a general direction on any public hunting areas there?

Somerville is a terrible lake I would not even think about a trip there. I do not even think coots land on that body of water. Move along...

Somerville is the main, and mostly only, public option. Sometimes you can find birds, but you always find alot of other "hunters"

20 years ago I used to hunt there while in college. I could only imagine how it is these days.

I was in the same shoes as you a few years ago. Had some good hunts in the area, but I would strongly consider driving the two hours!

If you build it, they will come

That would not be advisable any longer. Part of the reason the flooded river hunting was stopped, was the Navasota river and the problems it created. The ranchers along the river got ticked off at duck hunters and the damage they were creating while the river flooded.

Who would want to hunt the channel when it floods out to the trees? That is the only legal pplace you can hunt the river. The ranchers I know will file charges if someone is hunting their property. Not one once of "I am sorry", "I won't do it again" will they listen to. They are hell bent on filing charges for duck hunters getting out of the channel.

Sure wish DU would buy section of land for the Texas members. Was watching the show this past season, and they've done it in other states.
