Well I left Waco where I was from my daughters 1st birthday party at 6am Sunday morning. I arrived in Mound City, Mo Sunday evening around 4:30. As i round the bend on 71 i look up and see birds leaving a refuge, i don't mean a few strings i mean 300,000 + geese. I have never seen so many at once and i was blown away! I made a quick stop at the local corner store to purchase my Mo conservation license and some food/snacks and called Shawn with Cupwing Outfitters and he gave me directions to the field where they where setting up for our morning hunt. I soon arrived to the field and grabbed my gun and threw on a lil warm camo and ran up the hill to where the spread was. As I was starting to get winded (20 steps / dang smokes) I see a huge flock dropping in so I hit the dirt. I soon hear the booming, 7 fell stone dead! I hop up and finish sprinting to the spread picking up the birds as I passed em. Crawl in the blind and wait for the next volley. Shawn is chasing the one cripple that sailed a long way and I see a string in the distance. My buddy Rick was in the next blind and said hit the Ecaller, I quickly replied where and how, lol. After I find it and figure it out the volley has cut the distance by a lot. I fire it up and here they come. As they get closer I crank up the volume and as they start cupping and a few land I say Kill em boys!! 8 more fell stone dead! I'm thinking heck yea this is gonna be a hell of a trip? I was pleasantly surprised to see 700 full bodies in our spread of 1400!

We pack up and head to the farm house where we were staying to clean birds and get ready for our morning hunt. We have a Mo tv show; Bowdacious Outdoors joining us for our next two hunts so we have to figure out where we will sit the two cameras and discuss different plans. Bowdacious shows up around 8 and we introduce ourselves and share our plans and they are ready to see what we have in store. The nearest refuge is 6 miles away and is currently holding 1,002,000 snow geese, yes 1 million!

We head out Monday morning about 5am since our spread is already set and we just have to tweak it a little and add a blind for the extra camera man. It is 24 and calm. We are hunting a cut corn field that the geese where hitting every morning and evening. We get all settled in and after about 20 minutes the geese fill the sky. Shawn is operating the ecaller and I am flagging but we can't get them to finish.. Shawn ask if I had any ideas why so I gave him my thoughts and after a few minutes agrees and asked if I wanted to try it, I quickly said heck yea. I told everyone else what I was thinking and we will help move stuff. I decided to use a horseshoe shape and pull all the flyers, we where also going to keep the caller under half volume since most guys where really cranking up the volume in frustration around us. After moving a few hundred blocks we settle back in and the wind starts howling, 40+ moments later. A large string skirts us so I hit the flag and half turn towards us and drop right in the kill hole and we splatter blood and geese all over our spread! We soon have a front push in with the snow and it is practically a white out for a few hours and the temp drops 5-10 degrees. Once it started to let up the geese start worming in, due to the high winds the geese where flying 10 feet of the ground and the land in Mo is very rolling so you would see em loose em, see em loose em and WHAM they where in the kill hole on the edge of the breaking hill. It was like they where riding a roller coaster and when the popped the hill and hit the wind they where shooting up like rockets so you had to be ready and shoot straight! We had a lot of Canada's and specks mixed in so you had to really concentrate and pick out your shots but it was just awesome to see. We finished the day with 33 geese and stayed in the field for 13 hours straight. We saw, rain, snow, sun and lots of clouds

Day two we awake to 10 degrees and the same 30+ north wind so we felt good about our set up. It is clear so Shawn thinks this will help our numbers but we soon see geese heading south, not a few but a lot. I pull up the weather and see it coming.. A freeking blizzard. It is saying -5-10 in the morning and 14-20" of snow fall. I pull up the reserve and look at the count from the night before and the number had dropped by 50%... I tell Shawn and he is concerned to say the least. We have a good hunt until noon when we see a string of 100,000 birds migrating south and pulling birds from fields who join up and elevate up to them for the migration. They knew what was coming. We had 24 on the ground already and we start the talk of picking up and getting the hell out of doge before the storm hits. We all agree and start picking up. While we are doing this another wave of migrators, then another. These geese where getting out faster than us, lol

We ended up killing 79 geese in the 3 hunts and had a dang good time. We would have really hammered em but all the juveniles where still south so we dealt with mature birds who don't get mature by diving into kill holes. Bowdacious got a lot of good film and will be heading down to shoot a few shows with me in Texas in 2013. We are thinking of doing a marathon shoot. A day each of, duck, goose, deer, phesant, quail and a night of varmint hunting! I will be heading back up this year for another conservation hunt when the juveniles show up and prolly a duck/goose hunt this winter. Great guys which great gear and properties.

I snuck over the the reserve and snapped a few pics

I also stopped by Choctaw on the way home and won a stack of cash off a $200 tip. Took about 5 hours but finally hit a streak and had the place going nuts! Left there at 2am and was finally in bed by 4

That corn stalk is sweet! I've seen a duck die strangled in a standing stalk between the ear and the stalk.

Looks like yall had a blast. Id love to hunt more up in the middle of the country, haven't been up there enough.

My dog snores.

There is a neck collar in this pic. Let's see who can find it! It's like "Where's Waldo"
