As the title says my husband and I are looking for a Bison meat hunt. Cow or young bull. Cheapest I've been able to find is right at $800 plus $250 in fees. So $1100 total. Anyone know of a better deal??

That seems to be a pretty fair deal. I don't know of any cheaper at the moment. I know that dbhunting ranch had some young water buffalo bulls for sale for under $1000 if I remember correctly.

That's high in my book....I have found deals for 500-600 for cow..and no fees...but I do all my own skinning, etc... One day hunt..

If they do the work for you then 1000k seems fair..if not hold out for a deal...but that's just me

Prices are up on Bison as are general Beef prices. I just went on a meat hunt up here in CO. 2 yr old bull was $1350 - they skinned and quartered it. Prices used to be more like $850, but they can sell to feed lots for the same price I paid.

Given that, $1100 sounds pretty fair to me

Don't know about you'all but I really don't care for the bison meat. Have eaten it dozens of times through the years and because it isn't marbled, is a really dry meat. Some of the hamburger made with it and mixed with some suet is pretty good but sure not even up there in my top 5.

Man you must be overcooking it. I've been eating it along with venison, elk, beef...and man it's my favorite. Needs to be cooked medium rare.

I don't know, we never overcook any kind of meat. Numerous people have cooked it for us and most of them say it is really too dry for their liking unless it is mixed with suet in the burger. Its really hard for a meat to be anything but dry when it isn't marbled. How do you get the moisture in it when you cook it?

Treat it more like game than beef. Sear on the outside quickly, then take off direct heat and cook slow. Never go above medium rare. Use 'wet' marinades and seasoning rather than just dry seasoning as well.

We've never had an issue with bison being dry and we prefer it over beef. All I do is throw some season-all on it and grill over indirect heat. Baste with butter every time you turn it. Never cook over medium! It's some of the most flavorful moist meat I've ever eaten. Hope you give it another shot

Ok then, I'm going to tell my wife that she just don't know how to cook. I may be a while in recovery for awhile.

Yeah It kinda of went off topic a little. I was contacted by someone North of Austin for a hunt relatively cheap. I just have a hard time rationalizing $850 when I remember back when they were $4-600.... I was offered one at $750 I'm just trying to figure out what to do with 250+lbs of meat.

Plus that $750 escalates quickly. Processing is another $200+, at a minimum we would want to hide tanned ($450-700 depending on size) plus gas and lodging ect. A $750 hunt turns into $2000 real quick.
