The bucks on my place love apples. Last month, i tried jamming 6-8 apples down a small t-post thru their core and it has worked great. Every week I replenish the apples and game cams are showing that when apples are present, i am getting 50% more deer visit my feeder pen. Interestingly enough, they eat the top one first and work their way down the t-post over several days. So far, no problems with coons.

Rebar would work great.

Some have probably wondered - why not just toss the apples out on the ground? I have found that when they are jammed down on the tpost, the varmints cant walk off with them and end up leaving them alone.

That's pretty cool. My neighbor ties the apples on string then hangs them around his place.

BTW -- alot of grocery stores will GIVE you their bruised/damaged produce that is unfit for sale or sell them to you at a huge discount.

good idea if you live close to keep doing that. mine would spoil and rot before the deer got to them probably make them sick and die lol

If I put my wife in a high fence will her rack get bigger?

Great stuff RedSnake. I am headed out Sat for some varmint and pig hunting. Go set those up in my feed pens.

Thanks for sharing.

during the season, id take an apple or two and toss slices of them out. Hoping putting them out in my pen regularly like this will condition them over the next 7 months.

I agree. Now is the time to get them on the apples since I could see them getting nasty during the summer months when it gets hot. I can only get to my place once a month or so now so I want to get them used to looking for them.

Good idea up

I tried apples awhile back and didn't have much luck. Some would chew on them, but they didn't eat them before they rotted. I had them tied to a tree though...might try it again.

I used to work produce and threw lots of old veggies out for the deer. Once the green up of natural browse kicks in, its about as effective as corn. They wouldn't hit anymore until natural browse got scarce. Just my experience. I'm in an area where corn, soybeans, sorghum and cotton are the major crops so I think that has a lot to do with it.

Cool glad they are eating it.

I have deer that are coming up to my back yard that I have been feeding corn. I started throwing some other stuff out there as well, apples chunks of pineaple some potatoes squash etc, they wont touch anything but the corn.

It's hell eatin em live

I am glad you shared this. I have been throwing them on the ground and sticking them to mesquite thorns. I have wondered about an apple feeder without any good ideas.
