Good advice. Most fruit trees are container grown now.

I would almost agree but Spring is springing much earlier up here this year and in another month most of the fruit trees will already be sold

yepper and they are planted too deep in their containers......make sure and get that root flair exposed and you will have very happy trees

(that goes for all trees)

Plant them now and you run the risk of a late frost killing them.

They cost too much for the risk to me.

You could always start seeds this year and plant next year.

Never seen frost kill a fruit tree....maybe the foilage or bloom but not the tree

as far as expense they are 15 bucks here and would take you several years to get to this size from seed....if these hybrid seeds would even bare fruit

JMO but buy and plant them now and get the root growth that you will get in these cooler months before the TX heat hits

It's more of a warning for citrus trees, I have had lemon, lime, orange and grapefruit trees die.

Well when you plant more than a few it adds up.

Keep them watered and they should do fine.

Good Luck

Make sure you don't plant them by a driveway or patio. The fruit can make a real mess.

Won't be planting them anyplace close to the driveway and they will be plenty far in the back.We might want to add a small above ground pool or a hot tub in the future.Went to home depot in Wylie and they are remodeling the front so I didn't see any trees, until I left. They had a few peach in full bloom and maybe 5 of something that is still dormant but i'll check them out earlier tomorrow or someplace else.

Make sure the varieties you pick are self polinating, or plant more than one of each kind.

Now is a great time to plant. A tree will do better if planted while dormant. Also, pinch off any fruit that buds so that all the trees energy can go to root development this year. We planted our orchard three years ago and we did all bare root trees. I like bare root better than container grown.

Fruit trees are a lot of work. Depending on the fruit, they all get pruned completely different. Also while pruning, you need to clean your shears between pruning different trees to prevent spreading disease between your trees. And, you need to spray them regularly to keep bugs and disease away. At first I didnt want to spray, but after seeing the loss you get between the bugs and many different diseases, I started to spray.

You also need a .22 or pellet gun for squirrels.

I just bought some nectarines today at lowes. They haven't bloomed yet but are covered in buds. maybe I'll get a crop this year in Richardson. At the land, fruit trees are already starting to bloom, too early I'm afraid. One hard frost can wipe out this years production.

Now, plant a Ranger peach. They have them at Lowes. I have 2 mature ones at my house now and just planted a 3rd. I had them when I lived in Roanoke and sold 400 lbs of peaches to the IGA store one year.
