Finally moved from the can smoker up to something a little bigger and want to know where you guys in the north DFW area get your wood for your smoker. Looking for pecan, hickory, mesquite, and any fruit tree woods I can find but looking to buy in larger quantities than the 20 pound bags at Sams, etc...
care to share where you get your "good wood"? smile

I get alot of pecan from my grandma... seems she calls after every wind greater than 10 miles an hour and tells me another big limb is down.

Mesquite comes from road clean up at the ranch.

There is a place @NW Highway and Plano Rd called Lindsey's Cooking Woods-if you are old enough to remember Penny Whistle Park that is the location.

Don't know anything about it; just have driven past it.

I wish I lived closer to you, I love pecan.... I get desperate and buy from Albertsons (the only dependable source if pecan in north dallas area), and it is $14/$17 a bag..

Ask all friends and family. You can find folks willing to give it to u if you cut it. We get ours from The lease and my wife's uncles neighbor. We help her clean up dead wind blown trees and I get oak and mesquite for life.

Thanks for all the info guys! And Guy, I know the place you are talking about out there on 30, have never stopped or called either. I grabbed a couple good sixed bags of oak at Lowes and have found a few places close by. may check out Lindsey's as I'd love to find some apple or cherry...

again, thanks for all the info guys!

I would love it if I could find a place I could get large sticks of pecan instead of chunks. I have a big arse smoker that will eat the chunks you buy at the store. That's why I only cook with wood I can get in the deer woods. Unfortunately all we have is oak and mesquite.

I remember earlier this year a guy posting in the classified section that he had a large amount of pecan for free. I called within to minutes of him posting the ad and it was already spoken for. Dang the luck.

Never thought I'd see a Pennywhistle Park reference here.... As a kid, it was with out a doubt the best place for a birthday party.

On topic: I usually get mine from the store, unless I've been out to the ranch recently and the cut mesquite is dry enough.
