I was just curious if this has been done? Seems like it would last for a LONG time if you used this material if used as sheeting for the exterior.

I havent compared prices to ply wood, but seems like it could be an alternative.

Hardi is like $28 for a 4x8 5/8in. sheet. Would work fine its just heavy.

I have also thought about using Hardie products to build a stand as well. it would literally last forever as long as the main frame of the stand is water tight. if you do choose to go this route, borrow or rent a coil gun to attach it to the frame of the stand.

Hardie plank is HEAVY, consequently the structure (underframing) must be more substantial to support the extra weight.
So from a cost standpoint, Hardie is certainly not the least expensive way to build a blind. There is no question that it will last a LOT longer than plywood.
If you are not concerned with moving the blind and you can make sure that it is properly sealed, Hardie is guaranteed for 50 years!

I would trade a little heavy for longevity and near maintenance free blind (if properly done). If you know your not going to be constantly moving it around and only want to build one blind that last 50yr vs. 3-4 normal plywood blinds in the same time period, this seems like a obvious winner to me

I would like to see some pics of one that was skinned with the hardie products. Throw in some deerview windows and metal roof and you got a nice setup IMO

I bought two blinds made from Hardiboard (or its cousin) built on steel framing over a steel framed trailer...

Easy to move via vehicle, but it is a bit heavy to move once off the hitch.

I expect them to last a LONG time!

I typically build my blinds in sections or modules (walls, roof and floor). They can be assembled and disassembled easily in the field for transportation (for long distances or storing). So I personally never have to move the entire blind in one piece.

Look down two posts, just built one. If there is one thing I have learned, moving blinds every few years most stands dont last.

I have build several over the last 10 yrs out of Hardi. Love it. Low upkeep and easy to maintain. Heavy to work with but manageable. I have built them in place or at the barn and hauled them to the location. They are just very heavy. I built 3 blinds this fall out of Hardi and mostly treated lumber for $1100 total including windows,paint and caulking.

I've built a lot with it, but worked for a place where I could get their culls for cheap. I'd get the ones that were to thin on specs from the pulp consistency being to low when it went through the press. It is lighter and flimsy and could get a bundle for $100.

VERY NICE! Is that a 4x6'?

Might want to consider corrugated tin. Will last just as long or longer and is much lighter. If you frame with 2x2s and screw everything together they are very sturdy but light enough to move around with 2 people. My 4x6 is 8 years old and looks like to day I put it out except the paint has faded slightly.

We built one about ten years ago out of that stuff that we call the "Telephone Booth" (tall and not very wide). That thing weighed a TON, but it's still there, and in VERY good shape.

Both of these are made of HardiBoard, they are heavy but I don't intend on moving them. Hardi is quite different to work with than wood. If you would like any tips or tricks, just let me know.

I love looking at deer stands. Just "club houses" for grown men. I have 1 stand built out of hardi board, it's very heavy but shouldn't ever have to be moved. IF I was leasing a place I would make my stands out of 2x2 sticks with a sheet metal skin. Lightweight, will last forever.

This is my 4'x6' Hardie board blind. Yes its heavy, but not to hard to move. Back a trailer up to it and lay it down then drive it to new spot and stand it up. Takes 3 men to do it. Blind is 4 yrs old and is still as good as the day it was made. It is time to replace the plywood shooting porch though.

those are some great looking blinds. It seems to me that if you have that is easily accessible for truck/utv and trailer such as in your case 300j, these would be well worth the extra weight. That thing looks rock solid to me....OH AND VERY WARM!!!!

Must be set up in a suburban or industrial area. How's the deer population there?
