I lived in Shreveport for a long time. Unfortunately once the big chain resteraunts moved in some of the oder classic Shreveport places shutdown. But if you want a great meal and old school spots here are a few.
1. Smiths Cross Lake Inn - Very nice old school lakeside resteraunt. When I used to go there the waiters Dressed in Evening Jackets, White shirts and Bow ties, would only take orders from the man at the table. Very old school, very old south.
2. Ernest Orleans Resteraunt (Formerly Ernest Supper Club) - Get past the outside of the building and the inside is very nice. Super good food, Each desert is worth the dinner alone. Make reservations, don't go on a budget. Has been there for 60 years or more.
3. Herby-Ks - Old school hole in the wall. Awesome burgers, butI would fight someone right now if I could have a plate of their marinated crab claws.
4. Savoies - South side of town, my old stomping grounds very good crawfish and best fried catfish I have ever had in a resteraunt. Be prepared to wait. Super cold beer. For those of you that know Dudley's in Longview he used to work for Gerald Savoie and basically stole the menu and moved to Texas.
5. Superior Bar and Grill - Best Fajitas I have ever had (sad they are in Shreveport) and very very good margaritas (They spike them with everclear) Have had to be carried out of their more than once.
6. Johhnys Pizza - THey have stores all over the place even some here in Texas but the original ones in Shreveport are great. Was a weekend post morning dove hunt favorite for years.
7. Strawns - Strawberry Pie, nuff said.
8. Fertitta's Delicatessen - In the Bottoms, If you have a CHL, carry. Rumored to be a front of the old Shreveport Mob. I went to High School there with Sammy Fertitta which if you knew him would lead you to believe those rumors were true. Best Muffaleta North of New Orleans. Period a shreveport must have.
I could go on and on I was lucky to have lived there for 8 years, finished HS there, learned to drive and drink and do both there (drinking age was 18 when I was there). I would have to be paid double what I make now to live there again but there is some great food to be had.
I wouldn't eat at Jan's for free.

Here's a second to Smith's Cross Lake Inn. Man, the memories I have of that place. Words can not describe the food and service we got in there. Outstanding! I think it may be the finest eating establishment in La. north of NO.

Herby Ks is greatness dont be afraid of the neighborhood it looks sketchy but we haven't had any problems. Bathroom is down an alley but who cares its worth the trip. Chuck you maybe able to answer this but I can't remember exactly the place seems it was called Johhnys Catfish but not sure. It was all you could eat with all sides for about $15 and very good.

Johnnys Catfish and Seafood. I know of the place but have never been there it opened like 10 years after I left.
If I want all you can eat catfish, I head across the border and go to Big Pines Lodge on the Texas side of Caddo.

Jack Binion's Steakhouse inside the Horseshoe is a pretty good place to go grab a steak.

Really, you guys need to experience more Cajun Food. R&K was the last place I would choose in Shreveport/Bossier. In the 8 years I lived there, I went there twice.
The Original Ralph and Kacoos, is in Baton Rouge not Bossier BTW, and it is excellent. But I prefer Mike Andersons when I used to go there.
Landrys, is not half bad, but it is a chain. Savoies is the finest in S'port period.
When I first moved there in the 80s there was a place called Abe's, it was amazing but the old man died and his kids ran it into the ground.
Better yet go about an Hour south and eat at The Landing in Natchitoches. If they have BBQ shrimp, not a regular menu item, GET THEM!!.
Or even better yet take 49 all the way to the Lafayette and eat at Charley G's or Prejeans. Glad I married a woman who can cook Cajun food, only good thing I brought back from Louisiana with me.

Chuck, the original Ralph and Kacoo's was in New Roads in an old house sitting on the False River. Went there many times as a kid coming back home on Sunday after watching my LSU Fighting Tigers the night before in Tiger Stadium. Absolutely the happiest days of my life!

Don's closed. IMHO their steak was better than their seafood. Most of the truly great Kings Hwy resteraunts closed, mostly due to their customers were South Shreveport people and the South Shreveport expansion killed them.
I miss Don's, Brocatos, Merrills all great Kings Hwy places. At least Strawns is still alive there.
