About to book my first bow hunt and have a choice between red deer hind or elk cow. This will be a meat hunt and since it will be my first official bow hunt, it will also serve as practice.

If you had to choose between the two, which way would you go and why?

Thanks!

The cheaper of the two. From what I have seen they are about the same as far as weight and amount of meat.

The first of the two that came into range. I prefer red deer over elk but wouldn't push either of the two away.

The elk cow I saw at LSTO last month appeared to be quite a bit bigger than the Hinds I shot standing right next to her.

Whichever you choose, good luck!

How about a barasingha cow?

$350 on them. I have the permits for them.

@mike55070 Thank you!

@J.R. Thanks for that. LSTO looks like a great place, but a haul from Houston.

@Curtis: sent you a PM.
