I want to lease in South Texas-I'll pay up to $2,000/gun
I live in the Rio Grande Valley. Me, along with another couple of friends are looking for a lease in South Texas. We are not new to this. I own a small ranch in Duval county, but I want to also have a lease. Our ranch does not have a large herd, so I want to lease somewhere else. PM me or text me at 956-457-2101. We are serious hunters and serious game managers who believe in shooting mature deer.
If you want some friendly advice, get a haircut and take a bath. You wouldn't get hassled so much.

Captain Luke, Guys like you and me don't have a chance when Texas67 is offering $15,000 a gun. Kinda ruins it for the rest of us huh!

Yeah, $15,000 is not in the plans. Fishing does sound good right about now.

You're going to be hard pressed to find a lease in South Texas for $2000.00 a gun thats worth a darn.

Because regular guys, 98% of hunters, cant afford more than a couple thousand a year.
As to the species of exercises, I advise the gun. While this gives moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise and independence to the mind...Let your gun therefore be your constant companion of your walks--Thomas Jefferson

It has nothing to do with the quality of game.

I don't follow. Leases in South Texas are super expensive because everyone wants to be there because the deer are huge and plentiful.
It has everything to do with the quality of the game.
I can't afford it either, for the record.

Don't know about the deer being necessarily head and shoulders bigger than everywhere else, but no doubt more quantity down there. That is hard fact...

Just FYI, deer aren't plentiful everywhere in south Texas. It all depends on how big a place you have and the history of the area. We own 96 acres in south Texas (Duval County) and we are surrounded by low-fenced ranches that range from 500 acres to 2,000 acres. We have ideal habitat, water, cover, etc... Even though we have those things going for us, we get excited if we see a doe walk to one of our feeders. The most deer I have ever seen at one time is five. We don't have monster bucks. The biggest we've seen in three years is a 120 9 pointer. We have mostly small-racked 4,6,7, and 8 pointers that don't get much wider than the ears. This year we have only seen a handful of deer. Period. I hear gunfire from all directions throughout the season. It doesn't seem like too many people in the area are practicing some kind of management plan. It's frustrating. I hear the same types of stories from a bunch of different friends who have leases in different parts of south Texas. Some in Starr County, Cameron County, Hidalgo County, Willacy County, and Brooks County. Obviously there are some excellent ranches in these counties, but there are some that don't really have many deer. This weekend, I drove to Victoria, and I saw probably 50 deer in a 10 minute span on hwy 59. I even saw a good looking mature buck with a good rack on the side of the highway. I'm lucky if I even see one or two deer on the county road leading to our ranch in Duval County. It just depends on what part of south Texas you are. Some areas have few deer. I live in the Rio Grande Valley, close to McAllen and there are absolutely no deer to speak of within 20 miles of the metro area. I used to live right in the middle of Houston, College Station, and San Antonio. I would see deer all the time in those cities. Not down here. You have to drive way out into the country to see any deer at all.

Right, but to the point of you trying to find a South Texas deer lease - I assume you're not looking for a place with lousy numbers and poor antler structure, right?
Because you could probably find something like that for less than $2000. I'm guessing you're wanting a place with a little more of what South Texas is known for, and it doesn't surprise me that you're unable to find one for $2k.

For $2000 you should be looking for a good management hunt. Lots of ranches have management hunts for $1000 and up.
Bartender, bring me anything except brake fluid, cause I don't plan on stopping!

I can't afford it either, for the record. ^^^ as a result, the lease I offer to hunters is not 15K because I don't have a 15K product to sell.........
