I'm shopping for a decent scope for my 6.8 spc AR. Looking to stay in the $200.00 range. The 3 that I'm considering so far are: Leupold VX-1, Redfield Revolution & Vortex Diamondback. Distance will be no more than 200 yards. Probably stick with a 3x9x40. Out of these 3 which would you fellas recommend? If there is something else you feel is better in the same price range please post.
Thanks!

ST - grab that 4200, it's head and shoulders over the 3 scopes you listed.

200 bucks is a tough sell for a new quality scope.
I'd step up the the vx2 leupold 3-9x40 on the used market. YOu can find those within a weeks time for under 200.
Or even a vx2 4-12x40 for around 250... again used.
Dont be afraid to buy a used Leupold. they have a FULLY transferable Lifetime warranty... if it breaks they fix it on their dime. Best warranty out there in my opinion.

x1 or maybe x2, I dunno, I'm inter-webs stoopid, but that's a good scope!

I'll second that Burris Fullfield II recommendation. I bought one based on recommendations from the forum two years ago and love it. Have it mounted on my .270 and couldn't be happier.

I've got a brand new in box Bushnell Elite 4200 I'd sell for $200. That was going to be my recommendation. The Elite 4200 is the absolute best glass you can get in that price range. Take a look at some of the reviews on those....the glass is just as good as scopes that cost 3 times as much. I have that exact scope and absolutely love it. fyi, here is the SWFA Scope Rating Scale (from 2009, but not a ton of significant changes since then): The scale below was formed by SWFA sales staff, customer service, pro-staff and owners using personal experience, customer input and facts supplied by the manufacturers. The ranking system is based on the following criteria. 51% Optical Quality - How bright and clear the scope is. 15% Specifications - Field of view, eye relief, weight, adjustment travel, etc. 15% Durability - How do they with stand the test of time. 12% Special Features & Options - Proprietary items (reticles, design, turrets), Zoom ratio. 7% Warranty & Customer Service - How good are they. 0% Value - Bang for your buck. This criteria has been removed due to O.T. member input. In order to maintain the scale's simplicity we are not listing every single manufacture and only major manufactures will have several of their brands listed. This scale also does not have discontinued brands or products like the old U.S.A. made Redfields, Japan Tasco or Japan Simmons Aetec. This scale is heavily weighted toward HUNTING as being the application the scope will be used for. This scale will be kept current with changes that the manufacturers are making that affect their rank. Many of the lower end companies have been bought and sold a lot recently and while the names have stayed the same......the product has not. 2009 Riflescope Rating Scale Leica ER, Swarovski Z6, Zeiss Victory Kahles C - CL & CSX, Premier Reticle, Schmidt & Bender Kahles KX, U.S. Optics, Swarovski PH & American Lightweight Bushnell Elite 6500, Leupold VX-7, Nightforce NXS, IOR Valdada, Vortex Razor Bushnell Elite 4200, Leupold VX-3, Nikon Monarch & Monarch X, Zeiss Conquest Leupold Mark 4 VX III & VX-L, Meopta, Nikon Monarch Gold & Titanium, Sightron SIII & S2 Big Sky, Vortex Viper Burris Black Diamond Signature Select XTR & Euro Diamond, Pentax Lightseeker, Trijicon Accupoint, Weaver Grand Slam Bushnell Elite 3200, Leupold VX-II, Millet Tactical/Buck Gold, Nikko Stirling, Nikon Buckmaster, Sightron SI & SII, Vortex Crossfire & Diamondback, Super Sniper Fixed Burris Fullfield II & Timberline, Leupold Rifleman & VX-I, Leatherwood, Mueller, Nikon ProStaff, Simmons Barska, Sightmark, Swift, Truglo BSA, Tasco, Yukon ATN, Leapers, NcStar

I have two Burris, one an XTR, and the other a Black Diamond, several Leupolds Mark III & IV Tactical, Zeiss Conquest ect..I've had the scopes you seem enamored with..they do not hold up to hard use and they don't have that good of glass..Most show a lot of distortion after a few years of use..I used to hunt w/a Bausch & Lomb w/adj in the base..no coatings on the optics.they were absorbed by Bushnell..but in the early 60's were good glass..I've used all of my glass at nite w/moonlite only and they work good enough w/any moonlight to take animals up to 200 yds on low power..The Mark IV 8.5X25 is as good as my Zeiss..DD

I've got Leupold VXII's and III's and a couple of Burris FFII 4.5-14's. The Leupolds are a bit better than the Burris, but not by much. That said, the 4200 sounds like a pretty good deal. I've had and used Zeiss Conquest (3-9) and Nikon Monarch (4-16) and I was not that impressed with either. The Nikon broke and I gave the Zeiss to my BIL. If you don't get the 4200, just get the Burris FFII. Good scope for a good price. You can get a better scope for more money, but maybe you don't really want or need a better and more expensive scope.

I have a Leupold VXII, Fullfield Burris, Simmons, TruGlo and Nikon Prostaff and each works pretty decently. Other than the VXII and Simmons, they were all in the $150-$200 range and not bad glass for that price. The VXII (2.5x8) was about $300, years ago and Simmons 8Pt. part of a Savage synthetic trophy package. Of those in the $150-$200 range, I would put the Burris with BDC 1st, followed by the Prostaff and TruGlo. Outside of low-light conditions and I mean 20-30 minutes before sun-up or 20-30 minutes after sundown, I would be more than able to effectively hunt with any of them pretty equally.
One scope that I looked through one occassion at BassPro that actually really impressed me with clarity of optics at $125 was the BSA Panther. A nice looking scope all around, cool hood slope on the front..That would be one that I wouldn't mind mounting new or the Redfield Revolution. As far as high dollar optics, I prefer to put that into my binoculars when wanting to really tell antler size and detail. By then, I'm either ready to pull the trigger or not.
