KPRC report on hunting accident near Waller

In all, there's been three Texas hunting accidents this week. One of them was fatal when a teen in South Texas was shot by his cousin as they were shooting birds with a .22

X 1 million.

I hope they never sell him a hunting license again. And fired at movement at dusk. Pure stupidity

It's a shame when kids get hurt because their parent is a moron.

I hope he'd not want to hunt, after that. I know I wouldn't.

I've heard of people shooting at movement in the woods, but I always thought it was part of a joke discrediting someone's abilities. I never thought anyone was stupid enough to really do that.

Apparently they are out there. He should have his hunting license revoked for life and issued a fly swatter in place of his rifle.

When I was in middle school a kid killed someone walking in the woods in the Pleasanton area. He thought he was a deer. You can chalk that up to being young and dumb, but what's that dads excuse?

It's called a "sound shot" around here. My dad and grandpa both warned us against this and to stay away from people who practiced it.

Stupid people do stupid things.

I think the son should get to shoot the father back since his dad is an idiot.

This is a horrible accident that was 100% avoidable. Some People just don't take gun safety seriously enough. We almost had an accident at the deer lease this weekend however due to good gun safety practices the accident was avoided. I am so glad to hear that the boy is still living. This could have easily has an even greater impact on the two lives involved.

It's a sad situation but it just leaves you with the urge to just grab that father by the collars, yank him up and ask him "What the hell were you thinking"?

Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

Smith said the bullet hit the teen in the groin area and exited his leg. The father immediately dialed 911.

There is no animal alive that is worth taking without a clean, safe, and sensible shot. Shooting at movement or in low light or any other unsafe condition is inexcusable for anyone. I have always preached to my kids YOU CANT TAKE THE BULLET BACK WHEN IT LEAVES YOUR RIFLE.Same goes for any kind of hunting from deer to shooting a coyote or bobcat at night. Lets just thankthe good Lord that kids lives to hopefully hunt another day.

And for another bit of piece and comfort just remember these people walk and hunt among us! I can't think of how many times I've read about or heard this exact same scenario played out over the years. It seems to happen a fair amount on turkey hunts where a father, son, hunting partner shoots one another.
