The last few weekends have been pretty chilly in the popup blind and the only way to really stay warm while bow hunting is just to bundle up with clothing. My neighbor told me to use an old tin coffee jar and put kerosine in it to stay warm. What's your opinion?

Don't know about that one, but years and years ago, we would put a roll of TP with cardboard roll removed into a coffee can and douse it with rubbing alcohol and let it soak in. Then would light it for warmth.

I froze my arse off last night in a tree, planned on sitting for a couple hours in the dark to shoot pigs, after about 45 minutes I got down. It's amazing how many layers you can wear and still get cold. As to burning things in a pop up I don't know. I have a hard enough time getting something to get close to one of those things and with all the dead stuff I have piled up around it there would be one hell of a fire if the can got kicked over. Electric socks, hand warmers, something good on your head, which I had none of last night.

Ive been known to use a buddy heater in a pop up before.

but I have used the tp in a coffee can with alcohol. It works ok. I have never used it in a pop up though.

Propane heater works pretty darn good, in fact it will get so hot you'll start coming out of that cold weather gear.

I would be more concerned about smell. Pop ups no matter how you tuck them in, brush whatever alway seem to draw attention, at least for me, I would hate to give them anymore reason to look. Especially 10 yards from feeder.

Take a tuna fish can with one side removed. Cut cardboard to fit tune can. Roll up the cardboard to fill the tuna can. You should see the edge of the card board rolled up in can. Melt candle wax and pour in cardboard. Let dry. You can light the wax with a match any time.

Take a thick blanket that is not too loud with you. That way you can get rid of the blanket when the time comes and not have to many bulky clothes on.

Buy an old sleeping bag and once in place get into it and sit down. With it zipped up to your waist you can pull it up on your shoulders and with very little noise pull it down when ready to shoot.

10 yards is close but if wind is right I would try a heater. If it scares em off don't do it again atleast you'll know.

You don't have keep it on high, in fact I had to turn mine off after about five minutes, then later as you need you can fire it back up.. Four weeks ago I got a doe, a buck and a pig and the heater was on. Still 90% of everything is THE WIND, I've seen my buddy Rloving from this forum take many deer from his stand while smoking, but it's only when the wind is in his face.

I don't want to offend anyone but isn't part of hunting enduring the elements to harvest your prey? I'm just sayin.

Now, to be honest I have had a couple of hunts where it was just too darn cold (low teens) and I did bust out the buddy heater. There are a couple of advantages, one they don't produce much light so you can stay hidden inside the blind. There is the hissing noise but it seems to bother me more than the deer. Finally, the liquid propane burns clean so there is no smoke and the odor additive burns off if the burner works well. They are very efficient little heaters.

I had a doe stick her nose inside the window of my blind! I guess the No-Scent spray works!!

I'm thinking that a buddy heater is my best option as long as I keep it on low. The sleeping bag is a good idea but knowing my luck when I go to take it off to shot I would make noise. This past weekend I was sitting in the blind bundled up when it was 25 degrees and had my jacket wrapped around my lap and when I woke up there was a buck at the feeder. I go to pick my bow up off my lap and getting ready to shot and the bottom cam rubs on my jacket and the buck bolts. That's an example of my luck. Lol

Been hunting with heaters for a whole. Run it on high to get the temp up then turn down to low. Once that gets too hot the you just turn it to pilot so you do not have to relight it with the spark ignitor clicking. I dont have to wear bulky clothing that interferes with shooting.

bring a wool blanket to drape over you. I'm not a fan of fires inside a semi enclosed structure.

A black sleeping bag works well too. You just wrap up in it and when animals show up just unwrap, grab the bow and kill. Get a cloth one not nylon and mice like them so keep it in a tote or something if you leave it in the blind.

Take a old tin can, put a roll of toilet paper in it and poor a full bottle of rubbing alcohol in it. Light it and stay warn. I've used that since I was a kid. Simply use a bottle of water to out it out.
