Thinking about either a 25/06 or .270, not my first or second rifle just got the itch for something new.
Which direction would you go?

Tough call. I'm a fan of the .270, but i'd go with the 25.06 as well. I'm personally in the market for one too.

Craig Boddington once called the .270 America's best caliber! I've shot both the .25-06 and the .270 for several years, but prefer the .270 over any other caliber that I shoot. I've taken elk, deer, hogs, predtors, and turkeys with a .270 rifle that I've had since 1980.

270. Shoot the same case but a heavier bullet. Never let me down
Having said that, shot placement is key and there is only one level of dead. Us east Texans can't afford turquoise and elk ivories for jewelry. So we use hog tushes and coon peckers.

*sigh* at all the people who think they can answer the question without first getting more information....
Such as: What rifles do you have now?
ie. if you already have a .223, .243, and .257 Roberts, but nothing bigger, the .270 would be the better choice. If, otoh, you have a 30-.06, .308, .338, and .475 H&H, then the .25-.06 is the better choice.

To answer your question Chris, I currently have: .223, .243, 7x57, (2) 30/06 I may trade/sell one of the 30/06 for a scope once I have the new rifle.

I would go with the .270. Of course I am a little partial to them,I own two, one being a wsm. That being said, If I were going to buy another gun, I would probably go with a 25-06 or a .243 since I already have two .270's. I like long range shooting.

IMHO you can trade off one 30/06 and go with the 25-06. The 30-06 that you have will do everything that the .270 can, while the 25-06 would be a nice step up from the .223/.243 that you already have. You could also go the other way and get a .300 WM or .338 WM.

Id say the .270 is the all around better gun of the two. But given your current collection, id go with the 25-06.

Own a .222, .223, .243, .25-06, .270, .30-06, and 7mm mag.
Given the choice between the .25-06 and . 270, I prefer to the .25-06. Flat shooting gun with plenty of knock down.

*sigh* at all the people who think they can answer the question without first getting more information.... The OP's question was 270 or 25-06, pretty straightforward if you ask me.

I vote .270 but I am biased. Been shooting one for ever and will keep shooting forever. Love that little ruger m77!

I vote .270
Everyone should have a 270 in their arsenal. Great round and ammo is always available.
