"no ducks in Central Texas"

Now that I got that out of the way, got a call saying "we limited last week, wanna give it a try?" So since the deer have been anything but cooperative, I figured why not load some steel and see what happens.

I came in from the deer lease and scrambled around looking for my duck gear (first outing this year)and boy that was fun!

Since my shotgun is still inop, I opted to use my daughters SA-07 20ga grin (I think I may sell the 12 and find an OU in 20ga)#6 steel really works!

So I meet up with Deckhand after some choice texts and we load up his ride with a couple blondes and roll out.

LST comes and within a few minutes we are buzzed by a nice flock of teal. They never stopped bang

Then the widgeon decide to drop in to say hello, three drakes down, both blondes bring back a bird. Then a lessor scaup hen, that DH pops, gets back up, and I finish it, or so I thought. Both blondes go after it, but neither come back with a bird???

Then a lone canvasback hen makes the mistake of landing in front of me.

Had a group of divers swing over us, and kept on going to the next tank, so I did the ol VOO-EAT at em, and THEY TURNED (Thanks Scott!) for another pass on us (not that I was going to shoot em, but DH woulda) grin

Thats when the birds just kinda stopped. So DH goes to find out where the "one that got away" is at. So both of us are standing up on opposite sides of the tank, when a single gaddy drops right into the decoys!

So I water swat it hard, feathers flying, and it still takes off. I hit it again, and it locks up and coasts into the other pasture. Nows my chance to put a devious plan into action...

So Tuit and I go after this bird, with DH giving me hand signals on where it went down. We get the bird, and I slip on the "band" and give out a WOOHOO!! banana

Needless to say, I recieved alot of choice words, congrats etc when I show him the gaddy with "bling" up close.

Hook, line and sinker grin

Sue collecting the decoys

"Bling shot"

Not alot of action, but a great time with a good friend. thanks for having me out DH, appreciate it

I just have to say that Treebass WILL shoot a diver and then blame EVERYONE ELSE for shooting it aim !(all I said was take it!) Very sad we had low light when the two blondes where making beelines together for the downed birds. It was a beautiful sight.

Just had to add something! If you will notice in the photos my pup is taking the low profile approach to tank sit'en, while TB's blonde is taking the large profile stance. These farm ducks can be slick! Gotta use every trick there is! I have heard more shooting at ducks in this area this year than the 3 previous years combined!!! Crazy stuff even when hunting on private.

That's awesome TB. The ole slip on the band and fake celebrate trick. I like the twist you put on it...normally people do it to birds the other guys shot. I think the jealousy factor was probably through the roof.

my bad, I'm an opportunist at times!

although I did let a pretty redhead live another day, just because I felt sorry for the dummy. Stood there watching as he swam and called to his buddies. His stupidity allowed him to live another day...plus I don't shoot ringers bounce

Great pictures. I pulled that trick on a friend a couple years ago. It was pretty good.
