Well I'm a younger deer hunter so I'm trying to figure all this out for the first time. We had some pigs running off our deer at our feeder so we put up a fence around the feeder to solve the pig problem, but now the doe won't jump the fence. We initially had it about 4 ft tall, but we cut it down to 3 ft so they would jump in there but we still cannot get them in that fence. They walk around the outside and by it, but the only deer jumping in is an 8 pt buck. Anybody that has any suggestions/ help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

How big is the pen, it could be too small and they dont feel comfortable or theyre eating enough corn thats slung outside they have no desire to jump in.

Likely one of these possiblities.

Agree with above, have feeder pen that has 54 inch panels to keep the goats out. Does and bucks jump in the pen to eat. probably not the fence height.

That could be it. It's easily got 7 feet of room from the fence to each feeder leg, how much would be enough? And we turned off the thrower for the time being because not enough corn was being eaten so there was a bunch on the ground.
Also on a side note, there are little circular piles of corn on the outside of the pen. We've got a bunch of raccoons coming regularly so I assume its them?

Deer have poor depth perception so you can try to make the pen much larger. I like 10-16' panel round pens best. Leaving lots of room for lots of deer. The small corn piles sound like the work of crows. Raccoons would not waste time piling up corn they would just eat it. You can try to take one panel off or open it up to allow deer to travel in and out freely then close it back after a while.

I've got one smaller than that and the does do jump it to get in or crawl under it to get in...not sure what ur problem could be, but my pen only has about 4 feet on each side of the feeder legs so I know it isn't the distance I hunt in Stephens Co. Maybe your deer aren't used to it being there yet?

That's also a possibility. I'm going to school at angelo state and didn't get the feeder set up in time due to college and all that. It's been up for about 2 1/2 months now so maybe more will notice it. Thanks for the advice everyone!

With the feeder pen fence off the ground the deer much prefer to go under than over on a small pen. Pens size will deter deer but over time they will learn to jump in or just move on.

Don't know why you'd want to, but you'll probably have to cut the doe up to get her in the feeder.
