My wife and I are wanting to get another pup after Christmas. We are stuck between a black lab or a Britney, which would go best with my 4 year old chocolate lab? I'm also a Captain in the Army so we will move a lot, but I would like to have a one that could be both a family dog and a hunting dog. What are your suggestions?

I don't have experience with Britney's but I know labs get along great! My labs are best friends. They play tug of war all by thereselves and want to go everywhere together. We got our chocolate girl when our yellow boy was 1 or 2. It took about 2 mins until they started playing together!

well if you pick a lab, we have a female in heat right now that would have blacks and maybe yellows.
(her last litter was all blacks with 2 yellows)

Would I appear biased if I said a LAB???!!! lol... Well, WE love them, anyway. Best wishes to you no matter what you choose - a dog is a great addition to ANY family. Even more so for a military family... pup will keep the kids company and help them thru those inevitable changes in location, friends & life in general. Be blessed and thanks for serving!

Obviously the answer to all questions is a black lab.

I would love for it to be a pheasant, but I think duck would be more practical. The main thing with that is, we don't know when we will be back in that area.

If duck and phesant, has to be lab. Brits are good family dogs as well as quail dogs, but you just cant beat a lab on an overall hunter and family dog. And there is nothing on the planet, that does not have fins, that is better in the water than a lab.

I have had Brits all my life and can say if you want a great family dog they can't hardly be beat. All comes down to what kind of hunting you think you will do the most. If its duck hunting then its hard to beat a lab. I can't say that there is anything better than a pointing dog on any type of upland game. But if you soley want a retriever the lab is your choice.

I have had both... You know all the great qualities of a lab so I don't have to remind you of those. Brits are great dogs for pheasant, quail or any other upland birds. They are good to have around the house and learn manners well. Just remember that you might wind up in some place with great upland hunting and nonexistant duck hunting, so it might be good to be well rounded is all that I am saying.
By the way, my screen name is from the Brittany who was my hunting partner - Kaycee. He was a good dog, and if he ain't in heaven then there is no hope for the rest of us.
