Looking at possibly buying an AK47. I own a Saiga right now that is bone stock and I thought about having someone convert it but I figured by the time I paid for someone to do that, I could be part of the way to buying an AK47. I'm not looking for a top of the line AK, but just something that will be reliable and won't fall apart on me. Not looking to spend a whole lot either. Want to keep it around 500 if I can. Would prefer to buy something used as well to keep costs lower.
-Thanks.

Research the VEPR version, then go to centerfire systems and buy one for $499. Thank me later.

IMO AKs can be reliable functional rifles and a lot of fun, but are over priced these days for a stamped sheet metal rifle IMO. To keep it around 500 I think you are looking at the used market, do your homework, know what you are looking for and have patience to find what you consider a good deal and can be happy with.

Check with JBI armory, he builds some nice AKs and could get you a rifle for around your price range.

Go to the saiga-12 forums and they will help you a ton.
You can convert that saiga and have a top of the line ak. Its way easier than you think.

I'm afraid I don't have the tools necessary or I would try to convert it.

I'm afraid I don't have the tools necessary or I would try to convert it. I thought the same thing before I did my own conversion What kind of tools do you have available? If you truly dont have any, there are tons of people on the saiga forums that are known for loaning out the skills/tools. There are also very informative step by step videos avaible that really show how simple it is.

Whats your thought on a HK Stamped overpriced sheet metal? I can do a Basic conversion on your saiga for 75.00 plus parts and up. I can take your Saiga in trade and plus some cash for a MAK90 I have ready to go. I can build you a Romy kit on a NDS receiver for about 600.00. Jim
