2nd year hunting in Nacogdoches county. Was there this past Saturday moving treestands and putting a little corn out. Can't wait for bow season to start.

In East Texas, I hunt in Nacogdoches, Rusk, Gregg, Harrison, and Marion Counties. Some properties I own and some I lease with friends. Gregg, Harrison, and Marion Counties have some nice darn bucks - as big as in any part of the state. I am still looking for my first big bucks in Rusk and Nacogdoches Counties.

Dropped my lease in Sterling County, but still have one in Baylor County. Once I took up bow hunting a few years ago the thrill of "feeder" hunting wore off.

But I am an East Texas boy and I love the East Texas style of bow hunting - go in deep where they live and wait for the thrill of the big boy stepping out from behind a big tree.

Mathews Z7 Bow for Whitetail and Hogs
Remington R-15 .223 REM for predators
I also like to "hunt" sporting clays with my Benelli SuperSport!

Best thing I remember when I was a kid and hunted Cherokee,Angelina,Nacogdoches, ect counties was the squirrels and
wood ducks....both were hard to come by..but the deer hunters back then all hunted on stands setup on roads or pipe lines and ran with dogs..no one ever put out corn or had feeders..The squirrel in Anderson County were the Trophys...had the Compton
twins after them most of the time..Good Huntin..hope you and yours all do well..DD

West Texas boy here hunting East Texas for the first time, will be in Houston County - not really sure what to expect. Going to put out the feeders on the 15th and see what happens.

Don't expect to see deer every time you hunt and it seems to me, the farther east in TX you get, the more cautious the deer, especially with scent.

If the river bottom floods you prolly need to be at the lease and drive back and forth down the pipeline putting out corn...one out of its element is liable to step out behind the truck.

Be ready to shoot. And don't get discouraged if you don't see anything. It's not like out west where they parade around in front of you. LOL! I hunt both and East tx deer are a lot spookier and the cover is so dang thick. Good luck to ya!

I'm hunting Angelina co in Huntington

Harrison Co. here. Hunting a friend's place. Has two incredible bucks on a schedule right now. Low fenced pine plantation. Plenty of other deer and young'ns as well. Including one old doe that is going to go down as soon as season begins.

But I will say there are 6 less hogs on the north side of the FM rd after last nights massacre. Go looking for loose calves, kill hogs. grin
