I recently purchased a box of Barns TSX 55gr bullets in .224 to reload for my 22-250. I was wondering if any of you guys use these rounds and have a good load recipe. I will be shooting it out of a ruger m77 stainless for hunting deer. I know alot of people frown upon such a small caliber, but I prefer this cartridge. Thanks for any positive info.

I ran it out of my Swift but the gun likes the 50's a little better I was running right at 4000ft/sec with em in my swift and they were nasty on hogs never recovered one but should be a great bullet in the 250

They are exactly what I use w/ TAC and BR primers..chron 3810fps and shoot touching hole groups...I've never recoverd one from an animal..And they put down even 300 lbs Axis with aplomb..Don

That gun has a 14 twist rate. The Barnes 55 gr are fairly long bullets. they might shoot good out of it but I'm with bmd, the 50gr might be a better option. Never know until you try though. Very nice rifle by the way

From my experience barnes is a little too conservative with their twist recomendations. If you go buy their data they will probably recomend a 50 grain and say the 55 wont shoot, but if you load them I bet they do just fine.

Just a thought. Seeing that you already bought the bullets. I'd try them out.
If you hadn't bought them I'd have just bought the 50 grins because I doubt you'll see any real difference in performance on deer.
Good luck.

Im gonna load them up and see what happens, I'll keep y'all posted may go with the 50gr next time. Thanks for the input. I did notice that Barns recommends 1:12 or faster though.

It's appropriate among adults, to say "thanks" to folks who are trying to help you...

If your rifle has the 1:14 twistrate it mostlikely will not stabilize the 55gr bullet.

kmon. I agree. Beginning to think that it's not available in factory form. Barnes does not offer it. Nor does Federal Premium. I have emailed Barnes asking if anyone offers loaded ammo for the 55gr TSX i 22-250. You might ask ChadTRG42, who posts here alot. www.DallasReloads.com He does custom reloading and would probably make some for you. Or the 50gr TSX whould probably work just as well for you.
